We've heard all about Laura Mallory, the mother from Georgia who says the Harry Potter novels promote Wicca to children. Recently, she'd taken the case up with the Gwinnett County Board of Education, where she'd lost. Deciding that they judged incorrectly, Mallory next took it to the state, and she presented her case once more.

"This violates our rights of freedom of religion," Mallory said. "Because this other religion is being, you know, spoon-fed to our children."
She read some passages in court. She could barely speak the words.
"That's just one example, you know, of the violent, spiritual filth that our children are reading," Mallory said. "I guess I have a dream that God would be welcomed back in our schools, again. I think we need him."
Well, ladies and gents, today Laura Mallory lost. Judge Ronnie Batchelor ruled immediatley, saying that they Gwinnett County's Board of Education made the right decision to keep the books in school.
Laura Mallory said she is not quite sure what she'll do next, but she may take her fight to federal court.

It is PATHETIC that this woman is calling HP what she is, I am 11 and have been reading the books sice I was 9 my parents read them as well and we are all religous, and by now evrybody should now that they are fiction and that SHE IS NEVER GOING TO WIn as the judge and jury probably read them. If she wants to stop her kids reading them, then go ahead and so that but by saying that it is teaching Wicca to all us ids (and adults) well go shove your head in a hole becuase like AurorARissa said Is she thought that why isnt she banning Shakespear, LOTR and Dianey even, like i said before

I am happy she lost this case but I don't know why she doesn't give up and get on with her life.Everyone is entitled his/her own opinion,that I agree with but those who don't like Harry Potter never said anything bad about it.So I don't know why she did this.

Being from the Georgia-USA, I am not sure if everyone here at Snitchseeker realizes Ms. Mallory has not read on letter of Harry Potter and....
I think it is really absurd that the courts have allowed her to get as far as she did.
I think if she read the books she would have a different outlook...how can you complain about a book that has gotten millions of people to begin reading again!!!
This is from a 55 year old Grandmother who absolutley adores Harry and Company and who will be oh so sad when the series is over!

*insert several well-chosen words here* Just really! She thinks that the HP books violate the right of freedom of religion. Is she an idiot? Did she not think before she spoke? Wait, scratch that, because she obviously did not. She was trying to get HP banned because it was shoving this "other religion" down children's throats, right? Keep in mind that she wants religious freedom. And then look at her next statement about how she was dreaming God would be welcomed into schools again. Hm? Religious freedom? God in schools? Biased much? Honestly, woman! Oh, and another thing: It's the peoples' choice - the children's choice - whether or not they want to read the books. And no one, no one, can make that choice for them. The woman is goofy if she doesn't want her children to read them fine, don't let them but her opinion shouldn't affect everyone. Harry Potter is the first series of books in a long time that made kids want to read. How can that be a bad thing!

I mean, people have to realize that this is fantasy. J.K. Rowling isn't trying to get us to convert out religion to witchcraft.
And if she's lost twice already, what makes her think the federal court will be any different?

Well, first off, keep it clean people...no need for name calling. She has a right to an opinion..though as strange as it is.
Glad to hear that she did lose this case, because if she had won then that would have been ridiculous and almost as if I'd steped in to an alternate world. As if she could ban Harry Potter! I knew she would loose because:
1. Harry Potter does NOT promote witchcraft and spiritual magic
2. Harry Potter is loved by MILLIONS
3. One person CANNOT stop Harry Potter just because they have something against it
