| | | Mackenzie Vs Confused
Fiona Phillips, a rather funny GMTV presenter who has a column in the Daily Mirror, has a rather humorous reaction to J.K.Rowling naming her baby, Mackenzie Jean Rowling Murray. Quote:
When I named my newborn son Mackenzie, I thought I'd come up with an original moniker. That was two years ago. Then, on Monday, bloomin' Harry Potter author JK Rowling announced she's chosen the same name for her new baby. Which is fine, and proves I'm in good company... but hers is a girl, and mine's a boy, whose favourite possession is his new pink make-up bag. I'm thinking of re-naming him. "Confused" is a front-runner.

Lol, I know a Mackenzie who is a boy so I suppose it's just a uni-sex name. It's not that common, but I would rather have an uncommon name. I tell you, it is annoying to turn your head whenever someone says 'Will', even in a sentance. 'Will you buy that?' and I turn my head to see if someones calling me, bah, enough ranting I think!

Why? That's stupid, calling the baby 'confused' just because JKR called her baby 'Mackenzie'.

^ It's a joke lol and it's not because of JK. It's because her son plays with a pink handbag...it's making her re-think, perse, the connotations of the name, Mackenzie...
....oh nevermind! lol
Maybe it's the British humour that some people don`t get.

Mackenzie is a very nice name. And I think it goes for both girl and boy. I know another name like that: Darien. I love that name and it too is a uni-sex name. So, yeah... I lost my thought...

Mackenzie was originally a Celtic guy's name ('mac' meaning 'son of') but it's been Americanified now, so it works either way.

LOL. That's really funny, poor boy.
Most people I've talked to about the babies name say that "it's a boy's name.. why was she called that?" Which is funny because I know quite a few Mackenzies, all of whce are girls.

That's a pretty funny anecdote.
I think one of my first reactions when I learned the baby's name is, "Isn't Mackenzie sort of boy-ish?" But then, I remembered seeing/hearing a girl named Mackenzie, so...

that's funny!
Well, I personally think there is nothing wrong with a boy and a girl sharing a name
I think it is quite common to have a name for both, girls and boys
It is not like JK named her girl Stuart or Ron.

I like the name Mackenzie.
It's funny I haven't heard anyone reference Mackenzie Phillips, an 'actress' who became famous in the US from her TV role on One Day At A Time (1975-83). She was the daughter of 2 singers from the 'Mammas and the Pappas'. She's continued to do work since then as well.
She also was in the movie American Graffiti in 1973 as Carol.
Isn't Mackenzie, or 'Mack' also the name of the female lead in the tv series JAG?

Mackenzie is a cool name, at least JK didnt call her kid something like 'pineapple' or even worse 'radio' like the actress from a knights tale did!!
