LOTR beats out Potter in Oz - Summary: Article:
Ringing endorsement for Lord of the Rings
30dec03
THE final instalment in The Lord of the Rings trilogy has broken Australian box office records for an opening weekend.
Australians spent $12.7 million seeing The Return of the Ring in its first three days of release, from Friday last week.
The crowds outnumbered those who flocked to see the second Matrix film, which made $11.2 million in three days, Star Wars: Episode 2 -- Attack of the Clones, which made $11.96 million in its first four days and Harry Potter and
the Chamber of Secrets, which took $10.6 million in its first four days.
The Return of the King also broke the Australian opening day box office record, doing $5.26 million worth of business, making it the largest opening day result in Australian history.
The previous opening day box office record for Australia was held by the second instalment in the trilogy.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers took $5.2 million on its first day on Boxing Day last year.
Australia Post is jumping on the success of the movie trilogy, launching a souvenir stamp sheet for the latest instalment.
The borders of Australian 50 cent stamps display various characters from the movie and the ring itself. |

You have to have something similar to compare, therefore, they both rule! I was going to say the samething! Thats what I think 2. |

No thanks, i loved the books, reading LoTR is such a great experience, no movie can compare with it. the Fellowship was so lacking it couldn't even grab me long enough for me to finish watching it. I'm not a big movie goer, i don't like watching movies, so for me to be interested in going to see a movie there must be something really special about it, and i think i'll survive if i don't ever see the rest of the LoTR movies, thank you very much.
And please at least tell me that some of the people who are acting so snobbish about the LoTR movies have read the books. Just because i didn't see all of them doesn't make me any less of a LoTR fan. Still, i mantain, judging from The Fellowship the movies look like boring crap. Nothing like the books.

I love them both very much and you cannot compare because they are so different anyway, Congrats to the Lords and Potter will beat your butt in the long run because we will have Seven films and you will only have three! hahaha |

Oooookay, i know someone already complained about us talking about LoTR here. But since i was very not nice here a couple days ago i thought it would be fit to post this here.
I followed the advice of the people who told me to go and see RoTK, and i really feel like i must apologize for that 'crap' moment.
The movie is amazing, after the Fellowship fiasco i was predisposed against those movies, but RoTK was great, beautiful, as someone who adores the books i was so moved, i cried, what a fantastic movie.
Honestly, one of the best i've seen.
And to those comparing HP and LoTR, don't take it so personaly, really, there is just absolutely no need to compare. I personaly loved the HP movies too. And both the HP and LoTR are amazing, magical beautifuly, wonderfuly written books, and it's not like us fans must choose between them, or the movies, there is just no need to compare, or to choose between two great things, we are VERY lucky to be able to have them both.
And again, sorry about that comment from days ago, i gladly take my words back.
