Location of Snape's death in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II changed
Andrew Ackland-Snow, art director of the Harry Potter films, revealed in the November 2010 issue of Cine Premiere Mexico magazine that the location of Severus Snape's death in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II had been changed, with J.K. Rowling's approval. Without spoiling anyone, the quote from the article can be found below.
Note that in the book, Snape was killed by Nagini the snake on Voldemort's order in the Shrieking Shack.
SPOILER!!: Severus Snape's death location.
"The art director, Andrew Ackland-Snow, described to us another set created for the film. [...] "We also made the boat house. We wanted to change a bit where Snape dies. In the book, he dies on the Shrieking Shack, and we wanted to get him out from, not a conventional interior, but from that kind of box, to do it in a more dramatic atmosphere. We asked J.K. if she agreed for that to happen in there, because we hadn't really seen it before. We made a crystal house, and you can see what happens in the boat house from there - Are you listening Harry? -, but also the school is in flames...and she loved it. Besides, it's a very romantic place to die. Snape dies in a extremely good way, I gotta say."
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I has now been released worldwide; Deathly Hallows: Part II will be out July 15, 2011. Click on the banner below to order tickets for the film at Fandango. Tickets are also on sale now in the UK; head over to the Harry Potter official UK Facebook for more information.
WHAT THE HELL?! You do one good movie - Part 1 - and then you have to go and stuff up Part 2! It's not supposed to be romantic!!! Yes, we know, he looks at Harry and imagines Lily bcoz of the eyes but that does NOT mean that it's romantic and that you should change everything!!!! PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
It better work out!

Although I am glad they got J.K's approval because it was a very sad, dramatic, life or death moment in the scene for Harry, Hermione and Voldemort- I am a little mad it isn't the shrieking shack.
Someone's death like Snape-one who has helped and hurt Harry Potter in school -has to die in their rightful spot.
I wonder and hope if we get that feeling still of Hermione and Harry if the could've done something to save Snape-or just leave him there.I just hope that the feeling we got reading about snape dying in the shrieking shack, I just hope we get those same emotions running through us in the movie and if it will come out alive like how it should.
So happy they got J.K's approval but sad that decided to change the setting.

I just... I dunno what to think. I mean, as a book lover I want everything to be exact but I suppose it does make the scene more fit for Hollywood. [/semi-sarcastic]
I saw this at another site and I hope they aren't going to change more things although I've heard rumors they've change the location of another event too. :/
@iamsirius Yes, the final duel of Harry & Voldemort were take place outside the castle instead of the Great Hall... Is there another event which they changed the location?

Well, the final battle is shown in the trailer, so that's not really a big surprise.
I'm not sure if its true or not but I've heard the location of the Ron Hermione kiss has been changed too.. I just hope that Harry is in the bathhouse when Snape dies though.

Yes it's been confirmed that the RonMione kiss will be in the COS instead of Room of requirement.
I guess it doesn't necessarily matter where he dies. The important part of Snape's death is what Harry learns through his memories.
I'm sure it will look spectacular and romantic and epic. But I guess what I'll miss about it not being in the Shrieking Shack is that it won't have the same feel. I think Snape's death felt gritty and dirty and crude. It wasn't lavish or clean or romantic.
A snake tore at him, its poison coursing through his veins. It's a very painful way to die. The shack is dirty and dusty and old and dark. Voldemort didn't give him a huge speech. He didn't romanticize it. It was quick and dirty and raw. And I think the whole feel of that will change with this new location. I'm not shocked JKR signed off on it because, again, I'm sure it'll look fantastic. But I don't think it'll have the same feel.

I am not sure how I feel about the changes...Snape's death was a really hard and beautiful thing for me to read, so I'd rather they kept that the way it was in the book. At least J.K approved of it...but I think she has approved of some other changes that I was not very happy about

I'm a huge fan of the books but have noted that some of the changes in the film have worked out for the best, for example, Hedwig's death which I loved in the film as opposed to the book. I am going to trust the film makers on the change of location of Snape's death (ah poor Snape :,( ) but I want to feel what I felt in the book with Harry and Hermione in that moment. That, they better not take away, so I fully agree with everyone here.

I just wanted Snape's death to be EXACTLY the same in the book. Why is it going to be romantic? I know Snape loved Lily so much and Harry's got the same eyes as her but I wish they could do this scene exactly how JK Rowling wrote it. Snape is the 'Bravest Man' Harry ever heard of.
Hmm... not sure what to think, I think I'll wait to see it before giving an opinion but I do appreciate they went to JKR for permission, I like after eight films they still did that.

Lovely. Surely it's cheaper for them to stick to the Shrieking Shack, in addition to it being where it happened. Guess we can't judge until we see how it actually turns out.

well, that is pure idiocy....the shrieking shack was very familiar to all....to change the location simply because it was "that kind of box"....? dumb move.
