| | |  Knitwear manufacturer talks Harry Potter uniforms
The Kilmarnock Standard has interviews with representatives from Lochaven International Ltd, the knitwear manufacturer that has made the school uniforms used in every Harry Potter film since Chamber of Secrets. It usually takes them two months to produce up to four hundred garments, with each item individually tailored. They finished work on Half-Blood Prince last December and fully intend to be back at work next year for the Deathly Hallows films. Quote:
Lochaven’s marketing director, Heidi Daniel, said: “Warner Brothers, who make the Harry Potter films, got in touch with us and asked us to make the items and they were delighted with the quality.
“We’ve made the garments from then on and it’s quite an exciting story for our company. Not many people know where the jumpers, tank tops and cardigans are made.
“That’s quite amazing when you consider how hugely popular the films are and it’s certainly something for Lochaven to be proud of.”
When asked if there were plans to start selling the items to the public, Lochaven’s owner Keith Murray hinted that it may happen in the future. Quote:
He said: “We get e-mails from all over the world from fans of the books and films asking if they can buy one.
“Although there is no legal reason why we can’t, we don’t actually actively market them so they are pretty rare.
“Our quality and ability to produce relatively small batches in Scotland makes us fairly unique these days and that allows us to work within the film industry.
“The garments are very visible in the films and have become recognised as an integral part of Harry Potter. There is also a large Scottish connection with the films so it’s great to be a part of it.”

Couldn't they reuse the previous uniforms? It seems a bit wasteful; however, they do make alot of money from the movies, so it's only right that they share the wealth. Right?

I think that once all the films are done, they should sell them to the public, and keep making them for more public use. But how cool would it be to buy one of the limited edition ones that was in a movie?
Plus it would reduce the amount of wasted uniforms....

Each year the actors grow and change so new garments are needed. In addition, you have all the extras and some garments may get damaged during filming so spares must be ready. Plus each film has had small and large difference in in colors, and designs. Gryffindor has got from a red to more of a maroon and their yellow is almost gold. All the houses have refined their colors over the course of the films.
