| | | John Williams receives Kennedy Center Honor
John Williams was one of six people to receive a Kennedy Center Honour last night in Washington DC. They are a national recognition of excellence in the arts. John Williams famous for composing beautiful scores for films such as Star Wars and Harry Potter was presented with the award by film director Steven Spielberg. Quote:
Sunday night's show at the Kennedy Center followed a reception at the White House by President Bush and wife Laura, where the honorees received presidential praise. "This year, as always, the honorees make up an interesting mix. Tonight, seated on the same platform (with me) we have Sen. Bulworth, a husband and a wife who between them have acted in more than 50 films, the piano man who sang 'Crocodile Rock,' a soprano without peer and the composer who brought us the music of 'a galaxy far, far, away.' "
Quote:
Steven Spielberg, who made a presentation to honoree Williams on Sunday night, noted, "Sometimes I think the reason I make so many movies is just to keep John writing only for my films, pretending I have captured the lightening in my bottle. John Williams is a national treasure -- he's as American as apple pie and President Bush's mom(!) If a director can tell a one-hanky story, John Williams' scores are guaranteed to make you use the whole Kleenex box."

Yeah but he's gunna be busy with the 3rd Star Wars film which he, in all fairness, already had a deal with so...it'll be sad but Patrick Doyle is good too and he'll be working around William's skeleton score anyways, or so I'd imagine.

To be fair, it was down to Williams to leave, not anyone in charge of HP and Newell is a good director and British so he should be able to get the right essence across in the film.

Aww good for him, I love John Williams! But I didn't know he wasn't doing GoF *cries* I must have not read about it in the news.... I really wanted him to do it, I know he's committed to other projects but still....I hope this other composer is as good, I hope that he's learnt from the other three scores and will at least keep Hedwig's Theme in the film as I think that's the theme for the entire Harry Potter movie series. I will miss him composing and I hope he's back for the fifth film! Music makes a film what it is and if this new composer messes it up, no matter how good the visual is, I will be greatly disappointed and will lessen my enjoyment!

That is too bad he isn't doing the music for GOF.....I hope it doesn't affect the theme too much....Oh well. He deserves the award though.
