Veteran actor John Cleese is relishing being alive - after his chauffeur fell asleep and narrowly avoided a fatal crash "by about a second".
The Monty Python comic, who also recently played a ghost called Nearly Headless Nick in the first two Harry Potter movies, is now enjoying life to the full after he almost died when his sleeping driver almost crashed into another vehicle at high speed.
Cleese says, "I nearly died the other day. I was in a car travelling at 75 or 80 miles per hour and I realised my driver had fallen asleep.
"So I shouted at him and I think we avoided being killed by about a second.
"So it just shows that life's all a little more fragile than you think."

His driver fell asleep? Who falls asleep when they're doing 75 or 80mph? Unless it was one of those microsleeps I always hear about on TV.
But wow, close call. Bet the driver doesn't feel so good. | |

If he were due to be on the next screens in one of the future HP movies, and did get crashed... Man, would I be in panic right now. But I am really, really glad he's ok and narrowly avoided what could've been a fatal crash.

I'm just glad they're both ok. It's always my worst fear that someone driving me will fall asleep at the weal. It happened one time. My mom somehow fell asleep and we had to start yelling at her. I was about to drive home but she wouldn't let me. Horrible night.
My uncle who lives in NY always falls asleep at the weal and that's in NY. Ten times worse to fall asleep in that traffic.

Now that is scary!!! He's always going to be so wary of these things now... I always have minor panic attacks when i'm in a car since I was in an accident..
