| | | Jo gives public libraries a helping hand
J.K. Rowling has joined forces with 150 authors to encourage U.K. citizens to take advantage of public libraries through the “ Love Libraries” campaign. Brought about due to the under-utilization of these libraries in recent years, the campaign is designed to encourage the public to take advantage of all that libraries have to offer. Quote:
Rowling compared libraries to the World-Between-The-Worlds from C.S. Lewis's Narnia books as a "magical, mystical place, hushed and unhurried, where visitors could enter a thousand different worlds by jumping into different pools. When I got my eldest daughter a library card I felt as though I had bought her citizenship of that same fabulous world," she said.

Aw that's great! I don't really use libraries much... just go out and buy the books.

Aww. That is great! Go Jo! We need more public library love. And then in return, maybe more public libraries will be better funded for our needs... the one where I live is a disaster.

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

| I don't use my local library that much, although that's because it's rubbish and has hardly any books. |

That's great! Too bad the nearest library doesn't have a lot of the books I want to read.

You know, I had that same problem - then I found out there's a Web site where I can request any book in my county's library system and they'll deliver it to any library I want (in my county, of course). And they'll even send me an e-mail when it's arrived. Now I just surf, click and go pick up my books. I can even renew them online. No more searching library shelves. Saves a lot of time. You should see if your library system has a Web site.

My library has the same type of system. It's great to be able to search for your book online. No more heading down there and finding they don't have what you need.
Yes. Increase the public Library LOVE! Jo is made of awesome.

That is great the libary is awesome. I am serious you do really kool things there. and meet new intersting people there. Plus you get school work done or most of the times anyway. I think everyone especially kids should have a libary card and should go frequently. It kind of like a book store just a bit different.

I'm not a nerd or anything, but I love Jo's latest cause because I am a library junkie. I know it's in the UK, but it would be good if public libraries everywhere are updated and refurbished from time to time. Most public libraries don't flourish because of the usual excuses--lack of funds, support, etc. Jo's support will be a boost, no doubt and it'll encourage people to utilize libraries more often.
