Jo originally became involved with the Children's High Level Group when she read about how some children in the Czech Republic were kept in caged beds - the pictures of the children in question spurred her to do something. In January of this year she went to Romania to visit some Eastern European orphanages and attend a fundraising gala. She later wrote about her experiences in the Sunday Times.
In her latest piece, this time in The Sun, Jo thanks those who've supported the Children's High Level Group and their work, detailing what exactly has been done and what still needs to be done. The entire article can be read here courtesy of The Leaky Cauldron. Quote:
"At the heart of our campaign is strengthening the family. This means freeing children from the institutions in which they are being raised, often in unacceptable conditions, and returning them either to their own families or loving foster homes."
Inspired by the changes in Romania, other countries are following suit, such as Moldova but, JK writes, there is still more work to do, particularly in Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. Quote:
"We need to gather support, using pressure from the UK public, to persuade them that change MUST happen."

"Together we can change the lives of thousands of children across Europe by ending practices such as caged beds, keeping as many children as we can out of institutions and ensuring as many as possible are raised by families who love them."
Jo also writes about The Children's Voice, a fundraising and awareness campaign, highlighting the launch of their website through which members of the public can become involved in the effort.  | |

That is such a great cause. Jo always does so much for excellent childrens causes. They definetly should not be in cages, and I would really like to know why they ever thought that would be a good idea.

Its so awesome how she uses her influence, she could be sitting back in a dark wooded personal library with the most expensive wine doing nothing but relaxing, but she isnt, she's out there helping people and displaying the biggest theme in her books, that love is the most important thing there is.
