| | | JKR article in USA Today
The USA Today newspaper has run an article on J.K.Rowling's rise to fame; re-telling her rags to riches tale as a part of the build-up to the ' Half-Blood Prince'. Much of this is old info but it does include some new quotes. Quote:
Barry Cunningham, her first editor at Bloomsbury Publishing in London, remembers giving her "terrible advice" when they met in the 1990s. Rowling was a divorced woman without much money.
"She was telling me about her circumstances. I was worried she was really relying on Harry to be the future for her and her daughter," Cunningham says. "I told her she wouldn't make any money at children's books, and she should get a day job."
Quote:
The way Rowling has tended to her writing and personal life over the years impresses Levine: "It's a testament to her character, more than anything else, that she's remained true to herself. She has managed to maintain her perspective. I think that takes a great deal of effort."
Quote:
Says Anelli, who met Rowling before (and was given an exuberant hug for her Web site): "She's down-to-earth. It sounds like an easy description people use for many famous people, but for her it's absolutely true."

I think that's kinda funny in a way, because it's also very hard for females to sell children's books, which is quite ironic in a way. Which is why the pen name is J.K. Rowling... to cast doubts on whether the writer is male or female.

JK is the best writer in the world! How could he think she wasn't going to make money with it?

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

The way she stayed true to herself and her vision is very inspirational.

It's always nice when you see that some famous people haven't let all that popularity get to their head. I personally can't stand all those cocky people that are completely stuck on themselves. I mean being confident and being cocky are two completely different things, and some people are unfortunately more cocky than confident. If that makes any sense, lol. I like J.K. Rowling though, since she seems like she is a really nice person, and a great author

She has managed to maintain her perspective.
That’s really great! It’s probably really easy to let fame go to your head, but she hasn’t. On spending money, I remember in an interview someone saying something about "... Now that you have a lot of money, will you buy 10 cars?" (Something along those lines) and she replied by saying that she couldn’t dive so it would be useless. Even though she made a joke of it, the message is clear; she’s a modest spender and realistic! |

Because there aren't many authors who make loads of money off books and it seemed as if her livelihood depended on the book doing well.
