The Sunday Times today printed a guide to the 1,000 richest people in the UK.
JK was named the 96th richest person in Britain. She's also the 4th richest person in Scotland & the 9th richest woman in the UK - beating the Queen who came in at 15th!
Her total earnings are estimated to be £500m, which is £65m more than last year. However the article predicts that she'll earn a further £200m thanks to profits from future books & films.
Dan Radcliffe was named the 71st richest young person with a £6m fortune. However, he is the richest teenager in the UK and is also the youngest person on the list -- the young person category includes anyone under the age of 30.

Well, he has only done 3 films, albeit big budget ones. Most young actors don't get millions for one film. That's bound to double, if not treble, by the end of the series. He could retire after Potter if he wanted and live quite comfortably.

Well it's not just movies. They've got his picture on loads of merchandise. Posters etc. he has to be gettin money off that...it's his face. lol Merchandise alone should be well over a million. Just like with music artist...they really get dough off merchandising....so I think that number is still low. And do you know how much that kid from malcolm in the middle makes? Like I said 6 million is a low number. (boy from malcolm in the middle drives a $100,000 car) I forgot how much he has...*it was on VH1* lol

She's been richer than the Queen for a while now. It's scary that that's one of the issues addressed in '1984', people becoming richer than heads of state.
A better measure of JKR though is her giving character, her compassionate personality.

True, Emma! I love and admire Ms. Rowling, not because she's rich but because time and again she demonstrates that she's down-to-Earth, smart, compassionate, and understanding. She's had hard times and shares the wealth. Go JK!!!
And good for Dan, too. He's sounded intelligent and mature enough in interviews to not go and spend it all at once. I think he'll be smart and put some aside for education/investments/retirement. And charity, of course.

Really. Last I heard the exchange rate was 1.8/1.9 because the dollar had dramatically decreased in value. That's why this country is viewed as being so expensive. Someone even said JK's £500m forture is something like $987m. Quote:

He couldn't if he wanted to. His parents guard it until he's 18 - or in Emma Watson's case, 25. Personally if I had a fortune I'd want it looked after for a long time so I wouldn't spend it on fickle things.
Talking of mature spending, both the Phelps twins and Matthew Lewis (although I'm not 100% with him) have said before that they've invested their money in property. Which is good because the average British house costs around £90,000 these days.

Personal preference I suppose. I read an interview once where Emma said she could get it 18 but prefers for her parents to hold onto it because she trusts them. Seems extremely sensible to me. Most 18 year olds I know aren't mature in the slightest and the last thing they wanna do is blow their millions on flash cars/holidays/houses/drink etc...
