| | | JK 'wanted' to help save Chaucer
A Norfolk news website reports that a Chaucer Club in Bungay wishes for JK to help them in their protest. The club, which is based in the same area where the Potter novels are printed, may be demolished to make room for new offices and production space, however the club members do not want this to happen.
“We should send an open letter to her. She (JKR) might not want to be connected with a company which is so inconsiderate to local people,” said one man at the meeting.

...................................I dunno, they sound like they're crying. I'm sure the church I used to attend will be demolished, but I wouldn't hold a grudge. A whole building for a reading room? Why couldn't that money have been spent on something else? Im reading the article, before reading I was for supporting (keeping the club), but now, I'm back on the fence thinking that these people are a bit nuts. It doesn't say who owns the building, whoever owns it should be the one to deal with this, not JK. If the owner sells to allow it to be demolished, then JK shouldn't be blamed. I'm sure this debate has been going on longer than that. It would be impractical to demolish a building for - 1, 2 more books? There's more to this than what meets the eye. Sounds to me like they may be trying to drag JK into something she has no control over.

Personally I loathe Chaucer. However I can understand why they think JK might be inclined to help and I can also see why it might be worth fighting for because some do so him as a great British literary figure.

Geoffrey Chaucer was a medieval playwright. A British literary figure. Very famous too.

umm... I dunno. It'd be nice of her to help them out, but I don't see it happening. I think she should, but she's probably getting tons of letters from people asking her to help them. She can't save everyone, and there are tons of Chaucer clubs im sure.

I don't know anything about Chaucer, though, except for he was a British playwright...I can see how his works might be a bit hard to grasp/read.

Chaucer wrote a Knight's Tale amongst many other plays as a part of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. I really can't believe none of your schools seem to teach you about him. He writes in old English.

*stares at some of the replies* Emma!!! *clings* *pets* You're not the only one who knows who Chaucer is. I've got Canterbury tales (Old English on one side, and Modern on the other) At home.
Don't hate Chaucer just because some people on here either don't know him or don't like him. Read him yourself and make your own decision. Personally, I like him.

I don't hate him, I probably only hate his works because I'm having to study it for A Level.

lol, that'll do it, same thing happens to me in school. Chaucer was never required for me, one of my (history) teaches said to give him a try, and i did.

I love Chaucer and I've read the complete, incomplete The Canterbury Tales (he died before he could finish the work). BTW, he didn't write in Old English, he wrote in Middle English. Haha the club could just move somewhere elsee, I bet Jo would help em out.

That's odd, we're taught that he wrote in Old English. Must be the difference in the way countries educate their students.
