| | | JK updates site: confirms HBP length
J.K.Rowling has updated both the news and rumours section of her website.
In the news section she makes her own little announcement about the July the 16th 2005 release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and wishes one excited fan an early Happy Birthday. Quote: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be available from July 16th 2005 (and I do hope you consider it a decent birthday present, Delleve-who-posts-at-the-Leaky-Cauldron... not that I was watching the fansites on Monday night or anything...)
The Leaky Cauldron informs us that Delleve's original post went like this: Quote:
"HBP. Comes. Out. On. My. Birthday. Holy flying giraffes!"
Delleve has since responded to the news o her mention on JK's site by saying: Quote:
jgngafdioehgGIRAFFEGIRAFFEkjgjopyuoputrlingtkobnjg 0thgio[yhgiohnyihGIRAFFE
What am I supposed to say?
Because there are NO WORDS to describe how I'm feeling right now. Whomever offered me an oxygen tank, I think I might need it!
I'd like to thank the flying giraffes for all that they do, all of you guys who nearly made me bust a gut reading your comments, and Jo because she is awesome and knows who I am. *begins to hypervenilate*
gjnhenbhgiohgureutongklefngre
The rest of the news at JK's site reads: Quote:
I have a great feeling of release in being able to talk freely about the fact that the book is finished; it has been a weighty secret to carry around, as you can imagine. But finally sharing it with you was wonderful: much more fun than wrapping presents and tidying the house before the family arrives, which is what I am supposed to be doing at the moment.
P.S. Anyone interested in the 'hidden meaning' of the riddles and questions you had to answer before getting the message behind the door should head straight for the 'Rumours' section.
Jo has also shed some light on 3 new rumors in this section of her site. They are: 'Half-Blood Prince' will have 38 chapters : Quote: Listen carefully, I shall say this only once: the only sources you should trust concerning information on the Half-Blood Prince are official spokespeople for my publishers and my official website.
As a spokesperson for Bloomsbury, my UK publisher, has already said, HBP is shorter than Order of the Phoenix, and I can tell you now that it has fewer than 38 chapters.
Quote:
Let's face it: it wouldn't be a new Harry Potter book if hoaxers didn't pop up regularly on the net claiming to know new characters or plot-lines, or to have found stray chapters lying around a printer's back yard. I can't waste time denying each and every lunatic rumour, because I've got editing to do! So let's agree here and now that each of these 'claims' comes with a free barrel of salt and rise together above the madness.
The painting on the wall of the study means something (the room which was behind the 'Do Not Disturb' sign door): Quote:
Well, it means something to me. Lightmaker asked me a couple of weeks ago who my favourite artist is and I didn’t know why until I opened the door myself, but there it was, a little Caravaggio hanging on my study wall – a fantasy Christmas present if ever there was one.
The questions/riddles behind the door mean something : Quote: The riddles and jokes you find within crackers have no deeper meaning or significance and nor, I’m afraid, do mine. You all worked out very quickly that the riddle answers made ‘Half-Blood Prince’, but the three questions relating to Harry, Ron and Hermione relate firmly to past, and not future, books – nothing to do with the publication date, not an anagram, not a clue to the plot of HBP. I greatly enjoyed the facetious speculation about the corned beef-loving otters from Bristol, though.
Quote:
I was thinking of cracker riddles when I made up these challenges (crackers are a British Christmas institution; for those who don’t know, they are wrapped and decorated cardboard tubes that typically contain a paper hat, a present – usually something small and plastic – and a joke or riddle. Two people take an end of the cracker and pull it apart; it goes off with a loud bang, or crack, due to what a quick Google search informs me is ‘a strip of chemically impregnated paper’. You generally pull a cracker prior to eating your Christmas dinner, so that you can wear the stupid hat for photographs).
There goes the cute little assumption that Corned Beef & Otter were another oh-so sweet reference to the ship, Ron & Hermione.
Thanks to Griffiths123 & The Leaky Cauldron for the tip! |

Oh... I was quite pleased to think that otter/corned beef meant R/Hr. And I never knew crackers were a British-only thing...

JK, if you are also stalking this forum, I would just like you to know that my birthday is three days after the release of HBP! =)
.
.
.
Thanks for the bit of info, Emma!
I personally support a Harry/Hermione ship, though Draco/Hermione was my original ship but JK confirmed that it won't be ever possible...
Although, I must say that by rereading the past books, a Ron and Hermione affair is emerging, but that's just my point of view...

I would have been stunned too, if HBP had been scheduled for release on my birthday and then to have Jo point it out would have been awesome. She's a class act.

Of course she was on a lot of fansites on Monday night. We got news on a release date, the door was open, and on top of it all new pictures! I hope she was happy about what she saw. We're all happy about the release date. Couldn't have been a better Christmas present.

OMG! I can't wait! *does a little dance*
Jo, if you're on here, my birthday is in exactly a week and one day...(in Australian time, that is) January 2nd! I'm 17 woohoo!
Sorry, off topic. Ron and Hermione are so gonna get together! Jo has even hinted it, so it's gonna happen. Hope it's in HBP! Guess what, 202 days until it's released!!!! 202 days and counting. I am so obsessed it's not funny!
Oh, Merry Christmas to everyone!
