| | | JK to attend world peace conference in Spain in 2005
A Spanish Newspaper has today reported that some celebrities will attend the World Peace Conference to be held in Spain in May 2005.
It is to be an international forum with a focus on solidarity and peace. Several world leaders and famous individuals have been invited to attend this conference tenatively scheduled for early summer 2005 in Galicia, Spain.
A Leaky Cauldron reader from Spain by the name of El Cronista de Salem has been able to confirm for them that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been invited. Quote:
Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan, J.K Rowling, Rigoberta Menchu and Mijael Gorbachov are some of the people that have indicated that they will be arriving at this conference that will happen in May here in Santiago de Compostela.
Rowling also made a trip to Spain last year to accept the Prince of Asturias Award.

Isn't her baby due early next year? I would think she wouldn't want to be travelling much. So when is her due date? |

Spring 2005 which really means anywhere between January & March seeing as she probably would've left 3 to 4 months before announcing the pregnancy anyways. There's no real reason why she couldn't take the child with her but this does throw into doubt the chances of a HBP release date around that time.

Let's hope since they are announcing the release date soon, that she is finished writing. They do need time for editing and printing and even for getting the audio book ready.
It just seems to me, with a third baby, she might not want to do much travelling right away. Unless she's been confined alot while finishing her book and is 'dying' to go out.... anywhere!

A) She has been invited
and
B) She has indicated to those involved that she is going.

I'm sure she'll do a world of good there!!
It don't think its horribly dangerous for her to travel, but if she really wants to be safe she could go by a train...

Hmm... yes... Harry Potter books can definitely stop the war... if people would just take their time to sit down and read it...
Thanks for the info! :sorcerer:

No offense, but what would she know about such issues of world peace? I mean, she is an authour, not a politician. As for Nicole Kidman. Why should she be honoured for 'work' in the UN. I bet all she did was sit in a chair, and flutter her eyelashes.

Actually, she is an MP which is a member of parliament, she has a seat in the house of commons, or so I've read, representing the Labour party.
Plus she managed to convince the Czech government to stop locking children in cage beds in hospitals.
She has a great influence and it's only sensible that she use it for the common good.
Go JK! lol

Interesting that she has been invited. It is probably because she is now a very influential and outspoken person (remember the caged beds thing?). I believe she genuinely wants to use her fame to benefit good causes around the world and really make a difference. I would if I was her!

Oh wow, interesting. I have actually been to hear Rigoberta Menchu before...so that should be an interesting convention.

Well the news on MuggleNet is that she isn't going now. Her publicists released a statement saying so.
