| | | JK talks about the banning of her books SpaceCast has a short video where various authors, including J.K.Rowling, talk about satanism and censorship of their books - click on the picture of JK to see the video with her in it.
Here's some of what she has to say: Quote:
"I`ve had clergymen talking to me with enormous enthusiasm about the books...."
On people who condemn the books: Quote:
"I ask myself first of all how they actually read the books. Can they read? And if they read the books I am truly mystified that they could say that about them."

Half the people that say JK's book are evil and have satanism in them haven't even read the book. I know you can have your own opinions about stuff, but at least read the darn thing to know what your talking about. ^^;;

She has actually tried reading them also, before saying anything about it.
It makes me angry that people can say these things without even reading the book beforehand.

well what a bummer for them then. me and my best friend actually came to be friends because of our mutual interest in HP. and one of our friends was banned from reading any of the books because her aunt is a strict catholic and obviously still feels that practitioners of witchcraft should be burned at the stake. I lent her a copy of HP&PS and she fell in love with the books, she then asked her aunt to read them.now she's eaten up all her horrid words! she's as big a fan as i am!

They didn't even read the books, and yet they are critizising her. JK Rowling is a great author!

I love her books.....and if other people would read them before critizising them they would like them to.

I wish they would stop critisizing these books!!! Why do they say that they are for kindergarden kids or with some satanic message if they didn't even read these books???!!! I hate such extremists!!!

To the people who are critizing them... It's a fiction my I repeat FICTION book that J.K. writes to expand our imaginations! I am horrified that people are going around saying that it's satanism! BLAH! It's not like we're going to pull wands out of our back pockets (if you do, you might blow your bottom off! hehe MadEye Moody! CONSTANT VIGILANCE!) and start hexing people around us!
Who ever are taking time out of their insignificant lives then they should really start doing something productive instead of trying to take away these wonderful works of literature!
Some people just make me sick....

yes...i once was a harry potter hater *hides* but i didn't bash the books every chance i got...i simply didn't read them. WEll, one of my best friends was of course obsessed with them and she convinced my mom and i to read them. I've been obsessed ever since! lol my mom still hasn't finished the 4th book (i re-read it while she was still reading it!) but i've read them all several times and will stick up for them in a slit-second. Harry Potter is a wonderful FICTINOUS story. They're truely wonderful novels and if someone tries to bash them simply ask if they've read them!!! most likely not. I have one friend who'll fight with me every chance she gets that it IS witchcraft and the spells are real and JKR's a witch. ROTFL! *rolleyes* i learned first hand you mustn't judge a book by it's cover or what other people say. I heard there was a girl who read all the books in one day then started doing black magic. That's her problem. Her decision. She forgot the fact that it was all fictiounous. And just because some people took it too far doesn't mean there's anyhting wrong with HP! My friend accually called me BEGGING me to stop reading them cuz she was worried about me!!!! ROTFL!!! i think she thought i was phyco when i stared laughing!!! lol don't judge a book by it's cover and don't forget it's fiction. Simple as that. As long as you know the difference between real and fantasy these wonderful books will do no harm whatsoever (ROTFL the spells real? HA! *pulls out unicorn pop stick and yells wingardium leviosa!!!* *stares at phone* *gasp* it's not moving!!! i wonder why...maybe i need to buy a pretty peice of wood from Ollivanders!) |

| I think it's stupid when people censor books because if a book I had heard about was good got censored it would just make me want to go read it more. I don't know about anyone else but that's how I feel. |

i don't know what has gotten into these people... wow.... i go to a Catholic school and when ever i brought a HP book into religion class, my teacher really didn't have a problem with it...but then, they're not that strict... they just need to read them and they'll understand there really is nothing related to satanism.... it's just out of good fun and imagination....

its up to people whether they want to read the books or not, but they shouldn't ban them n not allow others to read it as well.

i was so happy when i went to a bookstore and saw a book that said "The God In Harry Potter". The author was talking about how the books are not evil, etc., etc.

I'm sorry but that is ridiculous. Harry Potter is not evil in any sense. If the people who says they are 'evil' they would know that they are not. And witchcraft and wizardry is not about worshiping the devil. It is them learning about a gift they were born with. And if they would read them they would also notice that it is a story about good agianst evil (Harry agianst Voldemort). A couple of my friends think they are evil. And even one of my friends who did think they were evil and she dosent think so anymore. She actually loves them (especially Draco!).So is all those people trying to get HP banned read the books they would notice that they are not evil. But are actually one of the best books written, thanks to JK.
Didnt mean to write that much...but I hate it when ppl say that! All I have to say, if they do ban them, then "I READ BANNED BOOKS!!!!!!!!"heehee ;-)

I, personally, can say that I am a devout Presbyterian through and through, and yet these books are an absolute OBSESSION of mine! I think that they teach lessons about good vs. evil, nothing more or less, and definately DO NOT teach satanism.

| In Love with Touz | | Lil Mikky-Mu I'll have to go with my old stand-by... "Hmm, let's think. Are these books teaching us to be bad? OK, some of us like Snape. But aside from that, baddies are bad, and the good people triumph (we hope). If you don't like them after you try to read them, fine. My own mum didn't get much past the first 3. She really only liked the first one. But she read them!!!" Pooh on them, anyway... they don't get to join the excitement of HBP!!! And they can always join us when they come around...

I started reading them after my daughter did and now
I'm obsessed with these books and have every one of them and read them at least twice and am on my way to having them read a third time....
And by the way I do love Snape and no he is not evil he is only written that way....muhahahaha
I cant wait till july 16th I will be buying the 6th book...
It is about good and evil not teaching our children black magic....*spits out nasty taste in mouth.*

There was a girl in my science class who said they went against her religion, but still read them. She gets mad at us for discussing the books during lunch, and yet compares us to the characters. She gets on all our nerves and said we shouldnt read or watch the movies. I told her to go some place very hot.
The books are wonderful and teach wonderful things. Go Jo for what she said. my best friend Ginny didnt like to read until she started reading the series and now she's more well read than me!

That is so stupid. First of all Harry Potter spells (avada kedavra, wingardium leviosa, and stupify etc.) aren't real! Second of all the books never once say anything bad about god or good about satin. It's a basic good guy bad guy plot...there are lots of those and their not worshiping satin either. I think is just plain absurdity...If you don't like the darn thing then don't read it look at it or get mad at people for reading it.
