For budding authors around the world, please take note of the following news brief from the Associated Press. A dubious book publisher announced that they promised writers their work would be shown to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling in Edinburgh, Scotland (her hometown), as part of a 'delegation' to further their careers - for a price. More on that below.  NEW YORK (AP) — J.K. Rowling is not amused by a publisher's promise that some of its books will be brought to her attention.
PublishAmerica, in a message on its website, is telling authors that a "delegation" will soon meet with her in Edinburgh and tell the "Harry Potter" author about some of their books. Writers are asked to submit 50-100 word notes that the delegation will present to Rowling. The price: $49.
Rowling spokesman Mark Hutchinson said Tuesday that the claim was "completely false" and promised "appropriate action." PublishAmerica, based in Frederick, Maryland, has long been cited by industry watchdogs for allegedly deceiving authors.

That is horrible and disgusting that they are using JK names to con people out of their money. I hope they are fined and shut down. Authors work hard and long on the books pouring their hearts and souls into them and then to have a golden nugget like the comments from JK Rowling dangling in front of them for money is a tempting offer that few would pass up.
This is really sad and I hope they find a way to return the money if anyone has paid already.

If you are trying to get published you go through legitimate publishing companies. Research everything!!! These people should know she would not be the one making any kind of decision on whether they are published or not! Be careful people alot of scam artists out there!!!!

This is so very wrong but sadly not the first time I've heard this sort of thing. A depressingly large number of small "publishers" and writing contests are in reality fake companies used to steal money from new authors.
