| | |  J.K. Rowling's agents request new Steve Vander Ark book
The Times Online are reporting that J.K. Rowling's agents have requested an advance copy of Steve Vander Ark's newest book, In Search of Harry Potter, a travel guide, prior to it being published.
The book deals with locations that the author believes to have inspired Jo in her writing of the Harry Potter novels - he even claims to have found the location of Hogwarts.
The check is being carried out to ensure that, unlike the Harry Potter Lexicon, it does not breach copyright laws. The book is due out next month, published by Methuen. Quote:
“This is my own writing about my own experiences and I can’t imagine there will be any problem with this book,” he [Steve] said.
Peter Tummons, managing director of the publishers Methuen, said: “This is a travel book . . . written in full by himself after his travels . . . There is nothing in it that would cause any distress.”

Wow, moving on quickly...leave the uglyness behind.
If there shouldnt be a problem of that book breaching any copyright issues, then there shouldnt be a problem to give them a copy to read through.
They should be concious about why Jo isnt going to be so trusting, when it comes to SVA atleast.

I am all for a author protecting their work and the rights but I think that Jo is asking a lot from this author I mean she would have thrown a hissy fit in court if someone had requested a copy of her book before it was published

Tbh, this is standard practice for transformative works, and given his poor history, it's hardly surprising. Quote:

He probably will be. This one does actually sound like he put some original work into it, unlike the Lexicon which was 91% Jo's. Quote:

That wouldn't shock me  had he published his Lexicon, I bet he would've done the same to Jo when her encyclopaedia eventually came out. Just the notion of the original author being sued over copyright for her own work, is mind boggling.

I can't Believe Steve is really going to publish another book so soon. Doesn't he want to wait atleast a year or so before resurfacing? I can't blame the boy for trying... No Offense to Mr. Vander Ark and all... But I honestly think that this boy here needs to relax and get things together.
Steve clearly has no knowledge of Copyright Law or if he does. He doesn't respect it.
