| | | J.K.Rowling won't allow unofficial Potter sequel
In an interview with a German newspaper sold on the streets by the homeless, to coincide with their translation release of Deathly Hallows, Jo has spoken about the future, writing Deathly Hallows & her readership. Quote: |
"I will make sure that no stranger ever writes Harry Potter books. Harry Potter is mine. I'm the only one who understands him."
| Quote: |
Asked whether the final Potter book with lots of killings made it suitable for young children, she replied: "I know what you mean, and it filled me with unease to hear that Harry Potter is read aloud to 5-year-olds. They should be at least seven."
| This is the second time Jo has helped the newspaper, the previous time being around the release of Order of the Phoenix when she allowed them to print the first chapter before it hit stores. Three million copies of book 7 were printed for the release on Saturday. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Isabella Cortella Second Year | Ahahahahahhaa! At least 7. xD
But I do wonder, how does one go about preventing an unofficial sequel. Do the publishing companies actually go to the original author and ask for printing permission? Somehow... I just can't see that happening. =/ |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Ottery St. Catchpole Third | *Ottery is copyrighted for life so you can't write him.* I think it's cute that she said that, and no one else will probably ever write HP in my lifetime ... *ignores fan fiction* but after the copyright runs out ...
I don't think children should be allowed to read ... they might get ideas and that's dangerous. Seriously ... people dying in books ... then they'll start thinking people die in real life ... no wait ... *Ottery will never die so his copyright will last* Boooyah! I'm like Energizer Platinum only better. |

Graduated | This is great to hear but I hope she can honestly enforce it. Copyrights are tricky things...
I dunno though... i honestly think HP should be at least ages 10, if not 12 and up. I was 11 going on 12 when I started but the first book can be read by an 11 year old... any younger on the later books though... :/ |

Do the publishing companies actually go to the original author and ask for printing permission?
| I don't think so, however if her lawyers got wind of an unofficial book 8, for example, they would probably serve the publishers with an order, either cease & desist or a summons. |

| Hahaha, at least seven. That's practically the same thing. But whatever.
Anyway, how could anyone even try to write a Harry Potter book? She's right, Harry is hers, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. I wouldn't want to read a HP book written by anyone but her. |

| Like she said, no one understands Harry like she does. She created him, she knows him. No one will ever be able to catch the essence of Harry, no matter how hard they try. They can write about him, but they can't write him. There is no Harry without Jo. Full stop. |

Enrico Antonio Serio International Cooperation | Ha ha. Sarcasm.
I was 8/9 when I read them. So if a 5-year-old can comprehend what's going on in the books, I say more power to them! But otherwise.......HP's a little above their reading level.
I think copyrights run out about 100 years after the author's death.....but that hasn't stopped me from trying! |
