J.K. Rowling has told the Today Show that she will "probably" publish a Potter encyclopedia featuring more details about her characters and the wizarding world beyond the ending of Deathly Hallows.

Rowling went on to divulge some details about the wizarding world, post-Deathly Hallows.

SPOILER!!: Head of Hogwarts & Defence Against the Dark Arts
Hogwarts, for example, has a new headmaster (“McGonagall was really getting on a bit”), and Rowling said she can see Harry going back to give the "odd talk" on Defense Against the Dark Arts. That class, by the way, is now led by a permanent professor since Voldemort’s death broke the jinx which didn’t allow a teacher to remain in the position for more than a year.


She also revealed which character got the reprieve she referred to last year - in other words, which character she originally planned to kill, but brought back in a later draft.

SPOILER!!: The reprieve
“Mr. Weasley, he was the person who got a reprieve,” Rowling said. “When I sketched out the books, Mr. Weasley was due to die in Book Five.”


She also spoke about the writing of a particular chapter toward the end of Deathly Hallows.

“I didn't cry as I was writing (chapter 34), but when I finished writing, I had enormous explosion of emotion and I cried and cried and cried,” Rowling said.

“That was partly because of the content — and partly because it had been planned for so long and been roughed out for so long. And to write the definitive version felt like a — a huge climax.”

I hope she does. It was so hard saying goodbye to the books, like watching your childhood end (literally I began reading the books around the age of 8 and in 6 months will be 18...how scary is that? lol) It would be nice to have one final thing to look forward too. Hopefully this last weekend won't have to be my last midnight release party if you know what I mean...

I'm so glad that she didn't kill Mr. Weasley. I had a feeling that she would kill him off. I'm really glad that she didn't.

I would love to read an encyclopedia. That would be lovely. But I suppose she really does need a long break!

While I think there wasn't too much info, I didn't think it was terribly inadequate...I mean, it definitely contained less info than I thought, but at least it gave us some of the kids' names and such.
