| | |  J.K.Rowling to be honoured by Edinburgh
The Scotsman is reporting that J.K.Rowling is set to be honoured by the city of Edinburgh, Scotland - possibly with a street being named after her.
Former Lord Provost Lesley Hinds wants Jo to be recognised for the the way in which she has promoted the capital through her Harry Potter books.
A civic reception is to be held together with a more "permanent tribute". Suggestions include naming a building or a street after her & "setting up a young writers contest in her name". They are going to ask J.K. herself what she feels is appropriate, before deciding. Quote:
Cllr Hinds said: "I think it would be appropriate for the city to pay tribute to JK Rowling, both for her contribution to the promotion of Edinburgh around the world and her encouragement of the joy of reading and literacy.
"There are all kinds of things we could look at, but the important thing is to have something appropriate that celebrates her achievements that she is happy with.
"Some form of children's writing competition or initiative in her name may meet with her approval, or we could have a street, a new building or development named after her."

That's really sweet of them!! For such a great city to honor her must feel really good! I'd love for them to name a street after her - if I ever made it to Edinburgh, that'd definitely be one place I'd have to check out. | |
