| | | J.K.Rowling talks about new book & charity ball More quotes from the Tatler Magazine interview with J.K.Rowling have emerged. They include details about the new children's book JK has written and a Charity Ball she will host on March 17th 2006. The fundraiser will take place at Stirling Castle and will raise money for Multiple Sclerosis, the illness from which her mother died in 1991. The quotes also reveal more about how Jo coped with the death of her mother. She also talks about her husband Neil Murray and writing the Harry Potter books. Quote:
"Dad called me at seven o'clock the next morning and I just knew what had happened before he spoke. As I ran downstairs, I had that kind of white noise panic in my head but could not grasp the enormity of my mother having died."
"I was alternately a wreck and then in total denial. At some point on the car journey, I can remember thinking: 'Let's pretend it hasn't happened,' because that was a way to get through the next 10 minutes."
Quote:
"My books are largely about death. They open with the death of Harry's parents. There is Voldemort's obsession with conquering death and his quest for immortality at any price, the goal of anyone with magic.
"I so understand why Voldemort wants to conquer death. We're all frightened of it."
Quote:
"Neil is the only person I can talk to about what happens [in the Harry Potter books] because he instantly forgets," she says, laughing.
"I had thought before I met Neil that it would be a factor in my remaining single for ever. Certainly, before I met Neil, I hadn't met anyone that I could conceive of marrying. I thought: 'I'm not going to meet anyone.' I did believe that. I thought: 'I've been lucky, I've got my work.
"I had my child.' I couldn't complain. I'm not someone who will take just anyone. I know I can survive on my own. I have been on my own for long stretches, which is not to say that at times I wasn't very lonely. I was, but I am a coper. I can do the being-on-my-own thing."
Quote:
"I've got a mental amount that I can't spend beyond. I still have a limit to what I think I would be justified in spending on frivolity." And when she bought her Bond Street earrings, mild guilt set in and she wrote out a cheque for the same amount to a charity.
Quote:
She is a Christian (Episcopalian) and "like Graham Greene, my faith is sometimes about if my faith will return. It's important to me".
Quote:
A new children's book is also complete. It is about a monster and is what Rowling calls a "political fairy story". It is aimed at children younger than those who read Harry Potter. "I haven't even told my publisher about this." There are also some short stories already written.
The rest of the article can be read here. The February issue of Talter is out on Thursday.

I'll definbitely read it even if its a children's book.
and Yes her books have that "death thing" quite much...but i guess death is a part of life why run away from it, its good she puts it into her books, makes the story more real!

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

Well it's like Ummm .... We need this book. She hasn't started it yet! Like everyday I wake up and then think "OMG what if this is something huge?" I have so many ideas! I'm just going to sit in a corner all quiet until the last book is out.

So you're saying Harry Potter IS a children's book???? *Pokes Emma* Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I want to read it...but Political Fairy Tale? Sounds to me like Cinderella gets on her horse and runs off to save the Prince from invading other countries and dictating their policies to them while turning over the governance of the country to parliament and giving all their money to charity... I think I like HP more...LOL
