The problem is that although many HP fans feel that being gay is not a big deal, a lot of other HP fans felt otherwise. Some have totally sworn off the series because of this revelation. Some have even tried to rationalize that although they claim not to be anti-gay, they didn't like the fact that Dumbledore was gay. I think it's sad that people are making a bid deal about the sexuality of a fictional character because they don't believe that he should be gay.

^I agree with that. I don't think being gay is such a big deal either. anyone here been on imdb.com? There was this topic where a Harry Potter fan showed a sad picture of Harry crying over Dumbledore's body. Then this one guy comes up and says, "Who cares? It's just a dead gay guy." I don't understand why people mock at homosexuality, they're just people like you and me | |

We on this site might assure ourselves that we are tolerant and open-minded, but there are many many people who are not.
Giving this award to a person as well-known and respected as Jo is a fairly easy and straightforward way of raising consciousness. (Although I'm sure there are people worthier of the award, this is guaranteed to bring more publicity.) | |
