To celebrate the 2008 Costa Book Awards 2,000 adults were polled about who their favourite authors were. J.K. Rowling came third on the list, beaten only by Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton.

Actually, the whole list isn't too bad. I'm amazed to find Isaac Asimov on #23. On the other hand, Philip Pullman is missing, and CS Lewis is in.

The whole list is surprising. I was expecting Nora Roberts, Janet Evanovich, people like that. And given some of the authors are more...traditional, like Agatha Christie, I'm surprised at their placements. Mark Twain at 40? How did Shakespeare not get first? Geoffrey Chaucer was last. :buggeyes: And no Phillip Pullman, Terry Pratchett, or Neil Gaiman.
