J.K. Rowling has made a substantial, though undisclosed, donation to help fund a £2.5 million multiple sclerosis (MS) research centre at Edinburgh University’s medical school in Scotland. Quote:
It means a great deal to me to be able to provide support for this much-needed research centre. It is an extremely exciting step forward in the ongoing battle to try to unlock the mysteries of MS and which will hopefully, one day, lead to a cure.
Rowling, who's mother died from MS at the age of 45, became a patron of the MS Society of Scotland in 2001.
MS is a condition of the central nervous system that impairs the brain's ability to transmit instructions to the muscles.
Scotland has the highest prevalence of MS in the world. There is currently no cure for the disease.

It must have been tough for her to have her mother with that desease  She was very very very sweet. Gosh! I have to say that every time she donates something like this I become a bigger fan of hers. She's just amazing.
