J.K. Rowling impacts environment with changes in Deathly Hallows publishing According to the Green Press Initiative, more than 30 million trees are used to make books to be sold just in the United States every year. After J.K. Rowling urged the company to make changes, Scholastic printed 65 percent of the U.S. first edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper. This means that it was created from responsibly managed forests, and contained at least 30 percent post-consumer recycled paper. These differences made a severe impact. 200,000 trees were saved, making the same carbon impact as if you were to take 1,577 cars off the road. The print runs in the United Kingdom and Canada were 100 percent recycled. To read more on Green Publishing and the changes being made, go here. |

It's good of JKR to do this and it adds more awareness of exactly how many trees are chopped down to make books. I'm glad that celebrities use their status to help awareness and hopefully to make some kind of change. |

Scholastic could've done a lot more, as shown by the greater efforts by Bloomsbury and Raincoast. It still baffles me that there aren't HP e-books - that would do wonders for the environment. |
That really is great :D |
That is so good! :D |
Weeeh.. Nature lover... :claps: appreciates nature.. |
Well done Jo! At least there are some authors who realise just how many trees are used to make their works. This was a brilliant move and hopefully lots more writers will follow suit. :woot: |
