Centre manager Vic Gibbins said: "When we opened, Joanne sent us a fairly large donation. When I heard she was going to be at the university, I wrote a letter and took it up there for somebody to give to her.
"I quickly had a letter back from her saying she would help us. We are delighted.
"Powderham is a super venue. This is our first ball so it's quite a big event for us."

Organisers hope the black tie ball at the castle, near Exeter, next Monday will raise about £5,000 for the South West MS Centre at Clyst Heath in the city, which provides treatments from physiotherapy to acupuncture for up to 300 people.
Tickets cost £45 per person - contact the MS centre on 01392 447411 for further enquiries/purchases.
