| | | JK reveals Potter tidbits at show - JK reveals Potter tidbits at show Summary:
JK Rowling gave fans some tantalising titbits about the future Potter books at her reading at the Edinburgh Children's Book Festival on Sunday. Article: CBBC Newsround has the first report of JK Rolwing book signing at the Edinburugh Book Festival. Quote: JK Rowling gave fans some tantalising titbits about the future Potter books at her reading at the Edinburgh Children's Book Festival on Sunday.*
She said she was well into writing book six. She said she was "just over halfway through it". She added it was her favourite book so far.*
"Of course I am the only one who has read it and I think it's rather good."* Two key questions
She did not give much away about book six, which will be called Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but she said a lot of questions will be answered in it.*
She also revealed there were two key questions about the whole plot that she had never been asked.*
The first is Why didn't Voldemort die when he tried to kill Harry? JK said that in the end of book four, Voldemort had said he had taken various steps against dying, but we should be wondering exactly what he did.* Dumbledore knows more!
The second question is Why didn't Dumbledore try to kill Voldemort in that scene at the end of book five?*
Dumbledore gave a kind of reason to Voldemort but it's not the real answer, and that Dumbledore knows something more.*
JK said if we are wondering about the overall plot, we should be concentrating on those two questions. Squib?
She also tantalisingly answered a question about Aunt Petunia. When asked, JK said no, Petunia is not a squib, as she is muggle-born, but...... and left the sentence hanging.*
She said we will find out a bit more about her in the other books and that there's more to Petunia than meets the eye!* She also gave away a few more tidbits of information. Abeforth Dumbledore is the barman in the Hogs Head
Dumbledore's patronus is a phoenix Grawp will be more controllable in the sixth book
We will see a bit more of Rita Skeeter
There will be a new character called Mc Claggan
Harry does NOT have a godmother
The full transcript will be available on her official site soon. Click here to see pictures from the event.
The BBC and CNN also covered the event. Here is what they had to say; BBC - Quote: The event marked her fifth appearance at the annual literary festival. Quote: She told them her eponymous hero would "survive to book seven" but refused to confirm whether he would grow up to be a wizard. Quote: The best-selling author jokingly chastised herself for being "shockingly indiscreet", but she kept her mouth tightly shut when asked about the title of her seventh book. Quote: "Of course, events such as the readings at the Toronto Skydome and the Albert Hall are incredible, but nothing can replace the pleasure of interacting with enthusiastic readers, as opposed to waving at a sea of skin-coloured blobs." Quote: He said: "She's an Edinburgh writer and she lives in Edinburgh, so I think it is great to have local writers at the festival." CNN - Quote: "He will survive to book seven, mainly because I don't want to be strangled by you lot, but I don't want to say whether he grows any older than that," Rowling told the youngsters. Quote: Rowling further teased her fans over whether Harry's pals Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger would be boyfriend and girlfriend by the end of the series.
"I'm not going to say. I can't say. I think I've given quite a lot of clues by now on this subject," she said. "You are going to have to read between the lines on that one." Quote: The BBC quote is that Harry will survive TO book seven, not "survive book seven," as has been reported on most other HP sites - which means as we know he will be alive at the beginning of the book. We still have NO idea whether or not Harry will survive the series. (The full quote comes from CNN: "He will survive to book seven, mainly because I don't want to be strangled by you lot, but I don't want to say whether he grows any older than that." The DD question seems deceptively easy. Harry is the only one who can kill Voldemort so logically wouldn't that be why DD didn't try to?

What interesting facts JK has given us.
I really want to know what is up with pertunia. Is she a witch that refused to go to Hogwarts or went for a while & chose to go back to a muggle life?
I think that the book is a lot further on than JK is letting on (well I hope so anyway)!

I wonder if Abeforth is working for the order?

That's interesting about Aunt Petunia...it makes me think now that she's a witch....maybe a witch who had very poor powers..and she was jealous of her sister so much and that's why she hated her. So that's why she choose a muggle life instead...hmmmm i dunno
I think Emma's right about why Dumbledore didn't try to kill Voldemort....because Harry is the only one who can.
obviously Harry would be alive at the beginning of book seven because then what would be the point of book 7?
i think he'll live though
this is some great info...i really can't wait for the transcript and especially the book!!!! I also have a feeling like many said that JK is farther along with book 6 then she says she is.

I was suprised by the news about Aunt Petunia... not because I was shocked to learn she wasn't a Squib, I always figured she was a Muggle and told the truth about how she learned about the Dementors, but I found it weird the way JK explained it. If she's a Muggle, and not a Squib or a Wizard - what else can she be? Jo made it seem like she would be giving away too much to say more, so it makes me wonder even more what secrets Petunia is hiding.
I'm really bummed out at the thought of never having a Marauder's book. I know she's said that we'll have all the backstory we'll need - but how about all the backstory we'll want? I hope she'll reconsider later in the future... ::goes off to cry in depression over the news::
My favorite new bit was learning more about Harry's Christening. I feel bad for Remus though, he would have wanted to go. And I'm glad she told us Sirius never married... now we know for sure.

Probably because they thought he was the spy at the time. And the Potters wanted it the lowest key affair possible... that's why Peter wasn't there either.
Ever since I heard about the Christening, I keep having a vision of Sirius in a suit, looking very fetching...
