| | |  Imelda Staunton felt "horrible" as Umbridge
In a new interview with Sci Fi Wire Imelda Staunton has spoken about her experiences on the Order of the Phoenix set, in particular how she felt bringing to life the vile Professor Umbridge. Quote:
"It was horrible doing the scene when Dolores makes Harry do his detention, and the blood appears on his hand," she said. "You put yourself in that realm as a person who's capable of doing that, and it was very uncomfortable for me afterwards. I did the scene fine, but then I felt horrible. It was horrible, horrible being someone like that. But Dan, he could handle it. He's been through enough on these films."

"I do love her beginning speech to the whole school, which is just so stupid!" Staunton said.
"She's there, and she really believes that she's going to help all these children to a better place," Staunton added. "And I would say Dolores has her hat and handbag and a very nice, crisp, clean outfit, coming into this place and just knowing she is going to do an amazing spring cleaning."

I love hearing differing opinions on playing the bad-guy. Some people love it, and others just don't.
It's great that she could pull it off, even if she wasn't keen on it. Shows her acting ability, it does. I look forward to watching her, even though I despise Umbridge

I've just finished my umpteenth reading of OotP, and hate Umbridge even more, so I understand Ms Stanton's feelings. It's kind of hard to play those horrible characters, buth they really test an actors habilities.

Umbridge is probably my most hated character. Whenever I think of her, I say "fowl git Umbrige..." Yes, very informal, but hey that's her character.
