| | | Ian Rankin discusses J.K.Rowling
Ian Rankin, a novelist friend of J.K.Rowling's has spoken about the author to The Sunday Times. They discuss her interest in crime fiction and what sorts of adult novels she's likely to publish after Harry Potter.
The piece quotes what JK said on her site previously in regards to writing after the Harry Potter series is done.
Ian said, Quote:
“I know she is a crime fiction fan, so I would love it if she went on and wrote a crime novel. I think the Harry Potter novels are whodunnits anyway. There are lots of red herrings and mystery. As long as she doesn’t set it in Edinburgh I’ll be quite happy.”
Danuta Keane, a former editor of the Bookseller, the publishing trade magazine, expressed concerns about Jo's future as a writer. Quote:
“I think her first novels were the most successful, before she had to start dealing with teenage emotions. They were much tighter. The last one felt a bit flat. But she is still a great storyteller and adult fiction badly needs good storytellers.”
Quote:
“It will be interesting to see if she attracts a big following after Harry Potter. It can’t be taken as a given.”
They've also quoted Jo in regards to how Harry Potter would affect her career as an adult novelist. Quote:
“AA Milne tried to write adult novels and was never reviewed without the mention of Tigger, Pooh and Piglet,” she said recently. “I would imagine the same will happen to me. That’s fine, my shoulders are broad enough.”
A spokesperson for Rowling refused to comment on the speculation saying, Quote:
“It is far too early for her to comment in any detail about what she will write next.”

Would that explain why so many of her fans are teenagers, adults, and children? OMG, how old are you...or are you one of those people who didn't have a childhood...OMG. Quote:

And you can say this with a straight face...seriously...*cough*failed writer*cough* You know what they say...those who can't write...hack. *Ottery remembers* But there are exceptions...*glomps Marcella* Quote:

Two words or is it one? Pen name...no it's two...LOL You've got the money, do you really need the fame? I'd use a pen name become a best seller and then laugh at them all...mwahahahahahaha Quote:

Too early...mwahahahaha...bet you they already sold the film rights...LOL.

That made me laugh too; clearly it isn't too early to comment as Jo's dropped hints on her site previously. |

How dare she/he! That is one of the major stories in Harry's life!
I could go on but i would put myself in a bad mood all day!
Back to crime novels.
It would make sense for JK to follow that root. Afterall, as Ian Ranklin says, the HP books are full of whodunnits, red herrings & mysteries.
It would have to be after JK relased her second non-hp book, until it is seen if she is actually accepted as an author of other story types.
I mean, i'm sure loads of people will buy her first non-hp book, but it will be her second which will determine her success as an author outside of hp.

I would read her books after HP. She is a great writer and if she can create a world so rich as HP, then I believe she can write just about anything. It's funny that it says OotP was flat, I thought it was chucked full of emotions, especially anger.

JK was a great author to be able to describe the actions of harry when he sees death happen right in front of him (Sirius i mean). Especially in way that was never expected!
Oh, i could go on! JK is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and one more !

I would definitely read anything else that she wrote in addition to Harry Potter. Probably have to make an adjustment though since you'd probably think of the books being like Harry Potter, and they might not be. Still I would read it though. I think it's great that she'll be writing more books other than just Harry Potter.

I would read any novels that JKR writes with no expectations because if you expect her other novels to be like harry potter books you are setting yourself up for a disappointment because any good writer will not write the book she/he has already writen but change the names. But I would love to read any book she writes.

I can see Jo as a mystery writer after all that is what Harry Potter is mystery novels and she's hooked all of us in really good. I was never interested in mysteries till I read Harry but this was the first time I cared so much for the main character.

By the time she publishes an adult novel I will be an adult and I will definately read whatever she throws out next. I also love her comment on A.A. Milne, because I love Winnie the Pooh and they are some of my favorite children's stories.

OOTP was the richest of the five books i think, there was so much action n adventure, i don't know how that woman could think it was flat..
n im sure of JKR writes other stuff, there'll be a lot of comparisons between that and HP, but i'd read whatever she writes!

Interesting news this is. I think that the Harry Potter books bascially are crime novals and mystery storys so the leap should not be to much for her!

JK is definately on my "to read" list, there's only 2 other authors on it (I buy their books before reading about it elsewhere, I know the name, I like their stuff, I buy their books not associated with the first one(s) I read by them) soooo.........yeah, she brings out a new book, I'm getting it.
