Hurt's Drunken Performance at Awards Bash Article:
Thanks to Mugglenet
Actor John Hurt has made a drunken spectacle of himself again - this time at London's Empire Film Awards on Wednesday night. The 64-year-old was in the news yesterday when it was revealed he had been ejected from a lap dancing bar after being drunk and offensive - and gave another alcohol-fueled performance at the awards bash at the Dorchester Hotel. Hurt presented a Career Achievement Award to his Alien co-star Sigourney Weaver, but struggled to read from the autocue as he introduced her. One guest told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "It was absolutely excruciating. You didn't know whether to feel sorry for him or just tell him to get on with it." Hurt then admitted to reporters from the Daily Mirror he likes to dress up in women's clothing. He said, "Every man wants to be a woman, and ones who deny it are lying. I'd love to be a woman. You have beautiful clothes - all soft blouses and pretty skirts. I like dressing up."
I wont put the next bit up because it is a bit offencesive. |

No comment... Which I suppose is a comment, so... What is wrong with people? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy A drink as much as the next person, but c`mon; it's not like they suprised him twenty minutes before the show, he knew that he had to be there. I'm not sure that he should be allowed the privledge of having a role in GOF, because like it or not today's youth look up to and emulate actors, and I feel that it is their responsibility to lead be example, and keep their private life private. And this is a film that alot of children will be seeing and... no comment. <--- Grayson B) The HuffelPunker! |

It's a big let down for me- I've been a John Hurt fan pre-Harry Potter. I feel like I've lost all respect for him- he KNEW he had to do this awards ceremony- it wouldn't have mattered if he'd gone off and got drunk afterwards, but beforehand shows a real lack of professionalism. I still hope he plays Ollivander in the HP movies because he IS a very good actor and has really made the part his own. On the other hand, I hope he learns from this embarrassment and limits himself a bit in future.

| Its a shame but alcholism is a problem with a lot of actors and actresses as is the drugs that run rampant. And unfortunatly it seems a lot of actors believe they deserve to be happy all the time and if they are not naturally then they should use artificial means to get their happiness. All I can say is, its very sad to see someone who drinks a lot because you know they are truely unhappy people.

It is a shame that John Hurt has perhaps a drinking problem. He is a very talented actor and it is sad that he is making an idiot out of himself. He knew he had to be at the award ceremony, so he should not have drunk anything until afterwards, preferably at home. I think a lot of kids and parents are upset at this because he is a role model and acting like this is displaying a lack of responsibility to his young fans. I am not stupid and not realize actors have drinking or drug problems it is just a shame that it does occur. If he really does have a problem he should seek counseling. I hope he stays sober on the GOF set or there may be a new Olivander.

Well, for me, I don't drink at all, so I hope I never have to face that problem. I wish him luck in overcoming HIS problems.

And always ask me if there could really be how she says (People with Power) like in the movie. I always tell her, you never know! but the movie is all done by computers. And she still loves the movies as much as I do. |

We're all human and he's not the first person to have done this. Pop stars, actresses, actors, etc you name them, you'll find a picture of them drunk somewhere. I dont think anyone has the right to preach when we all know what happens when you have a little too much to drink. Anyone can make that mistake and it's hypocritical to think otherwise. |

Yeah, a lot of stars have been drunk on Award places, but if they take him out of the movie for this it's kind of stupid really even if his words were a bit offensive. When people get drunk they can't really control what they say or what they do.

[/b][/quote] I'm sure WB has had this problem many a time before and it's being exaggerated further because he's in HP, which isn't fair. Previous actors dont get thrown from jobs because of this and so he shouldn't either. |
