The Metro is reporting that a first edition copy of the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is to go under the hammer on the 26th of this month at Bonhams in London. The copy is expected to fetch up to £7,000.According to this report previous sales of the first editions of the Philosopher's Stone have fetched more than £10,000. A book expert at Bonhams, Mr.Luke Batterham, had this to say:

It is the publishing phenomenon of the era, and there is expected to be huge interest.
Also up for grabs at the auction will be a signed letter from JK Rowling to a UK correspondent of Germany's Die Welt newspaper where the famous author expresses regret at not being able to travel to Berlin to pick up a newspaper literary prize. This letter is expected to fetch between £1,500 and £2,000.
