| | | How Amazon will cope with HBP Forbes is today reporting on the efforts Amazon is going to, to compete with bookstore chains who'll also be selling ' Half-Blood Prince'. The internet shop is at a significant disadvantage because unlike shops, they can't get the book to fans at midnight. Quote:
Amazon's five American warehouses processed as many as 250 Potter orders per minute, and, in each, there was a team dedicated to doing nothing but processing Harry Potter orders. These teams worked in secure areas blocked off with an 8-foot high mesh barrier, which could be accessed only by warehouse workers with a special badge. It also posted security guards at the entrance--keeping the books under tight surveillance around the clock.
Quote:
Steve Holmes, a UPS spokesman, said the company has come up with a detailed "industrial strength" plan just for the Harry Potter delivery. "From the moment we pick up the packages, they'll keep moving," said Holmes.
Quote:
Says Amazon spokeswoman Kristin Mariani, "It's basically Christmas in June."
Quote:
"In this case," said Holmes, "a day early is no better than a day late."
The release of ' Half-Blood Prince', for Amazon, has been described as "the biggest delivery event in e-commerce history."

They`re going to have a big headache that night......like me. But I`m going to suffer with a smile, and the Amazon owners - with lots of green papers.

You mean that you're gonna finish yours on Saturday morning?
Yes. OotP took me 9 hours. Given my growth in age and the fact that HBP is smaller than OotP, logically the 6th book should take me about 6 hours.

That's like... *does da math* 13 hours faster than me! *and your b-day is one day earlier than mine* Then I will try to beat you!, and beat my proposed hours of 15-16 hours for HBP. And I live on the Pacific coast of the US....so PST for me. If not...then I hope it's worth trying.

The timezones don't change the amount of time but you're cute so you'll get away with it lol 9 hours not including toilet/food/drink breaks.

LOL Age's got nothing to do with it though. I read too fast and miss all the lovely details which is why I re-read.

Hopefully I won't have to resort to Amazon. Can you believe they expect me to WORK that weekend?

^ Me too, I work that weekend, but I'm hoping to get the weekend off just so I can read the book as soon as I get it.

I, too, miss details when I read (first time, second time, etc.), most importantly, foreshadoing since I don't stop and think twice when something's gone amiss (or repeated), which is why Siruis's death took me by surprise the first time 'round in OotP.
