Post Hermione better than Cinderella?

The Times of India has an article which claims Hermione Granger is a better role model for girls than Cinderella. A scan of the article can be seen here.

Quote:
Psychotherapist Susan Darker-Smith says: "Hermione from Harry Potter is a great example. Sometimes she rescues Harry and sometimes he rescues her. Young girls should realise they can rescue themselves." The study, called The Tales We Tell Our Children.

The Sweetest Thing Lissy De Vil

That's true, I never thought about it that way, but definately true. I've always liked strong female characters who can take care of themselves without always relying on someone else. At the same time she has the ability to accept help when she needs it. Cool!

Default Go Hermione!

Hermione is a great role model! If you think about the saving herself thing and she is sooo good at school, that it makes other people want to be good at school just like her. (it made me want to be like that anyways.)

You better believe Hermione is a better role model than Cinderella. Could you imagine Hermione waiting on anybody hand and foot while patiently enduring their abuse? I don't think so.

Times have changed now.
Women and girls are more independant and realise that if they want something done, they've got to do it themselves.
*has a celebratory dance because of hermione -v- cinderalla news * can i hear a whoop whoop?

Whoop! Whoop! I never compared them in my mind, but it makes sense. Without realizing, kinda anyone who reads Harry Potter is influenced by the characters, and of those characters, Hermione stands as more of a role model than the other characters, (Ron's my favorite though)
Go Hermione!

I think Hermione is a great role model. She's smart and can stand up for herself. She's a strong person of course she's a great role model.

♥ Doctor Sarah ♥ Rupert's Teddy Bear

I personally think cinderella was never meant to be a role model for girls...it's just a fairy tale....on the other hand hermione is totally different....theyve made out as if saving is the sole important thing in the world...but i think besides that hermione is a sensitive girl she realises things better emotionally as compared to ron and harry...shes good at studies too...but i still cant think of her becoming a role model.....

Actually, she does do that with Harry, in a way. She's not as girl power as some would have you believe. She's always there for Harry and gives him the solutions to a lot of his problems yet a lot of the time he doesn't appreciate her and is sometimes ungreatful of just how wonderful she is to him.
