Here is what was behind the door at JK's site - A screencap of a book

Summary:
Thanks to Ooberu

Article:

Here is what was behind the door at JK's site

Ooberu, a member at SS, found this image of a book, written in another language or code that was behind the "Do-Not-Disturb" door at Jo Rowling's site. It could be written in Latin. I was wondering if anyone would be able to make sense out of it. Jo did comment and say it was just a "filler" possibly put there in case anyone did hack behind the door but it would be interesting to know what it translates to in English.

I was thinking that maybe all the words are anagrams for another word. Either way, enjoy trying to work out this mind-boggling puzzle!

Its like for testing different fonts or something, in latin its just some gibberish. Its been around since the 16 century I think. I can't remember its name though...

Thanks Emma!

This is Latin and is a standard phrase (poem) that most people use when trying to "fill" space with nonsense - usually to be replaced later with real content.

Dreamweaver (a web page creation tool) has a plug-in you can get called "Latin text" that types in X-amount of characters from this poem to fill in space when you make web site mock-ups.

In other words, it's just nonsense - at least the first part is. I haven't bothered comparing every single word. Maybe it branches off into something sensible after a few sentences...

So I might be right in thinking Jo put it there as a prevention in case someone did hack behind the door (Meaning maybe she intends to put something else behind there or something - I mean, the door is still locked - if she wasn't going to use it for anything else, why would she keep it locked?). In other words she was thinking one step ahead of her fans. She must know alot of them spend time on the internet lol

Some of that is definitely Latin, for instance I recognise the word "dolor" which means "pain", and "magna" which means great. However even my A Level in Latin cannot translate that. Me thinks it doesn't make sense!!

I've never studied Latin, but I can see that it's the same thing just repeated over and over again.

Yeah there is something about pain, crying, and such.... I don't have time to translate all of it though. Look it up on the internet if you want to find out what it says. Google it.

Do you think the poem could have any real reference to the themes in the next HP book?

I think at the end of the JKR Biography special she made a comment about someone breaking through the door and getting this info and she laughed about it. So I think it cant be very important. Heck she keeps the last chapter of book seven locked away at undisclosed location. If she doesn't want you to know something, you wont. I think the joke is on us or anyone who thinks this means anything.

Go to www.lipsum.com for a full explanation of what that text is about. Here is the first paragraph:

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

to me it looks a lot like word games i play called cryptograms.
i found a latin translator and a lot of the words dident have meanings.
so to me that kind rules out latin.
could be its just gibberish, but i'll see if i can decode it like a cryptogram.

that is quite strange. I think it just might be fill until she can put stuff behind the door like when the 6th book comes out. Though no one can really get behind the door unless they hack into it, and there is a lot of trouble that comes along with hacking.

^ so how do you get through the door? Does anyone know all the extras you can get from the site? i know about if you go to the page with all her notes there i think its the cup u click u click the little eraser on the bottom of the bill board and then erase the little blank sheet of paper next to the main text of the ntoes. it shows u hyou have to get certain items that are all over the page. then in the fan sites you have to put the 1st and 2nd place little metals in their boxes you get something else. does anyone know other ones??

She just likes to send us on wild goose chases. I'm also waiting for someone to tell me how to get the door open.
