| | | HBP: 'the biggest title in Amazon’s history'
Amazon.co.uk dispatched more than 400,000 copies of ' Half-Blood Prince' on the day of the release making the Harry Potter book “the biggest title in Amazon’s history”. Quote:
Ryan Regan, acting managing director in the UK, said: “It was obviously a huge exercise to deliver that amount of volume of a single title at any time and particularly such a high-profile title.
“So we had dedicated space in our warehouse and worked very closely with our partners at the Royal Mail. From our perspective things went very smoothly and we couldn’t be happier.”
The UK arm accounted for more than a quarter of the 1.5 million orders from fans of JK Rowling's creation around the world.

Holy Cow! 400,000 on release day? That's a LOT of books!!! Isn't it great when kids (and adults) choose books as opposed to video games?

That's really cool! I think they did a great job! I ordered a copy of HBP from Amazon UK and received it only a few days after the release date, and I'm in the US! So I'd say the mail system worked quite well.

It's great to see a book doing so well...I don't think any other book will ever match it. HP is too big. If you think about it, its really great because it's got alot of people interested in reading again, something we need especially when the main activity these days seems to be tv and computers...Anyways, congrats J.K.Rowling, all HP fans have you to thank | |

That is a lot of books, i wouldn't like to be the manager in charge of dispatching them to the correct people.

Mine wasn't one of them, but I also wonder how many books were sold in total in the first week, Amazon, normal shops and all.

I bought mine within the first week and I am glad to see so many people interested in reading. I mean my brothers wait outside stores for hours for a new video game. I got them into Harry and now they buy books too. I just hope many other kids choose to read over games. But i have the harry potter games too. I guess I am just as bad. But I do read more then I game!!

She should recieve an award for this or something. I mean how many other authors have had that many pre-orders? And that's not even counting those who bought the book who didn't pre-order!
