| | | HBP not as big as OotP?
A worker at a small bookstore has ventured a guess that ' Half-Blood Prince' won't be as big as ' Order of the Phoenix', in article which discusses the various different plans that bookstores have for the release of HBP on July 16th.
"I think Scholastic's announcement of that huge print run was an attempt to prime the pump. [Fans] are looking forward to [the new book], but it's not the big thing it used to be. The first generation of Potter fans are in their teens now, so I think the new book is going to sell steadily well, but I don't think it will be as big as the last book." said Elizabeth Jenkins, an employee in the children's section of the Berkeley, Calif.-based Cody Books.
Sara Wright, manager of Chicago's Children in Paradise bookstore has said that smaller booksellers can benefit from the Potter craze, "A lot of times bookstores that have the parties sell out of the title, so the next day we benefit from the fact that we still have some copies on hand."
"I think the lesson learned [from the last Potter books] is that people will want this title anyway they can, whether they have to pay $9 or $29."
The rest of the article can be read here.

| I think its gonna be just as big as OoTP and i think she is wrong when she says "I think Scholastic's announcement of that huge print run was an attempt to prime the pump." Why would they do that? |

| LOL Yes, that's why it was #1 on amazon.com, barnes & nobel, etc., in a matter of mere hours, because it won't be as big as OotP.
Schoolastic bases their initial print run on the pre-orders going on. They know what's in store by the numbers and know that it'll be huge. Small bookstores couldn't begin to fathom it because they're not getting anything until after the hype dies down. If they could afford to do what big bookstore chains do, I bet this wouldn't even be an article. |

| | | I think that there are as many adult readers as their are children. No matter the age of the reader the books are completely enjoyable. So I don't think that anyone can speculate about the sales. There is no reason that this book shouldn't sell as many as the last. With each movie and new book more people get roped into Harry's life and I don't think that there is any reason for it to stop now. | |

| | | That's rubbish! PS was published a number of years ago, and throughout the years more books have come out, magically attracting to them huge numbers of fans, no wait, MILLIONS of fans.
I wonder if that woman ever read the books at all.
I'm sure that HBP will sell as much as OOTP did, if not more, because of course new fans always apparate among the community of hungry fans.
I wish they'd organise a midnight party or something around here. There's not going to be anything on the whole island! This really sucks! | |

Ministry RPG Name:
Otis Waymon | Of course HBP will sell as well, if not better than, OotP! I hope my local bookstore is going to be having a party- I'll be dressing up. Even if they don't, it won't matter- they always sell out of non-pre-ordered copies in a few minutes. They don't need parties and big print runs to make HP sell- it sells on its own. And any true fan, no matter what their age, will buy the book- even if they are a lot older than when HP started. |

| Actually, we already know it's going to be SMALLER than OotP, because on Amazon.co.uk it says 600 and something pages for the British child's version when the British Child's version for OotP was 700 and something pages. It should be about the length of GoF, I think... |

| LOL I was just going to say it's about popularity.
Any ways, I think these people have underestimated new fans that come out every day. I started reading the HP books a little over a year ago and I got someone I know interested in them. And my friend who got me interested also got a couple others interested. So even if some people have grown past it (which is the point I think, they have a very child-like story with the wizards and magic, but it's also a story about teenagers, so the now-teenagers can relate), others have taken their place in the fandom and then some. |
