Default HBP cover designs?

When the release date (July the 16th 2005) was announced for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Scholastic (the American publishers) featured a generic purple cover in their announcement.

Although this is not the official cover art, it is somewhat significant because the generic cover for OotP was blue and the cover art for that book also turned out to be blue, leading some to believe the American cover art for HBP may be purple. Purple is also a colour linked to royalty which would be appropriate given the title of the novel (Half-Blood Prince).

On the British publisher's website, Bloomsbury, the generic cover used is red with the middle section hidden.

Thanks to Mugglenet for the tip!

Hmm... the colors of the covers of the HP books are getting darker and darker as it progresses (American version). I wonder if the final book will have a black generic cover.
I'm not sure what the colors of the books are over there in UK, but isn't the first book sort of yellowish? Hmm... I might also collect HP books (British version) someday.
Thanks for the info, Emma! :sorcerer:

The first was red, the second blue, the third purple, the fourth red and the fifth yellow.

Miss Sarah Bippity Boppity Boo!

Well, for the American editions, not too many colors are left. (I'm going by the colors of the :writing on the sides, because minus the last one, most of them have a ton of color)
First= Gold (Yellow) writing, multicolored cover
Second= Silver (gray) writing, multicolored cover
Thrid= Green Writing, multicolored cover
Fourth= Orange Writing, (mostly green cover)
Fifth= Blue writing and cover

The main colors left out here are red, purple, and black. I can defently see the last book being red (because someone is without a doubt going to die) so purple is likely. However, back in Ancient times, purple was the color that showed the highest, or the most important of something, and JKR is very big on ancient stuff (just look at the Latin in her spells), so this book might be red and the next could be purple! Yeah for overanalyzing!

I'm not sure if I like the cover design or not. The colors are neat, but it would it would be a better eye grabber if it had some type of a drawing on the cover.

Do you people READ?? It's NOT the front cover for the book, it's just being used until one is ready. Which means, both the UK and US illustrators have to read the book, then design a cover!

Here's a link directly to the page with the pic. I love the purple. That would make for a great colour scheme for the cover illustration!

The covers do look pretty good. As Acromantula said, i think it is appropriate that they are getting darker, since people are dying. It would be understandable if they did use a black cover.

The cover being purple would go with the title of the book.
