| | | HBP cover art revealed!
The covers for ' Half-Blood Prince', the sixth book in the Potter series which will be released on July 16th, have been revealed. Scholastic have revealed the US cover designed by Mary Grandpre and Bloomsbury have revealed the childs cover, designed by Jason Cockcroft and the adult cover based on a photograph by Michael Wildsmith.
The US cover shows Harry and Dumbledore standing over what appears to be a pensieve. The British childs cover shows Harry and Dumbledore stood in circles of fire, with their wands raised. The adult cover features a photograph of a book called "Advanced Potion-Making," by Libatius Borage. View all three covers here UPDATE:
HUGE (And I mean over 300 kb huge!) High-res versions of the above pictures can now be seen in our image gallery courtesy of HPANA. HIGH-RES US Half-Blood Prince Cover HIGH-RES UK Child Half-Blood Prince Cover HIGH-RES UK Adult Half-Blood Prince
Articles about the cover release can be found at MSNBC, The Times of London, CBBC Newsround, Sky Showbiz, Northwest Herald, CBS, Seattle Times and The Daily Mirror.
MSNBC:- Quote:
“It’s a challenge to take a character ... and make sure he ages correctly and make sure he looks like he would look if he were to get a year older,” she told The Associated Press. “I feel like I’m his mom, I comb his hair or I mess it up, I make sure he looks good before he goes out the door.”
Quote:
“It’s like a candy store for an illustrator,” she said. “I connected with Harry pretty quickly and loved the way J.K. described everything; she’s such a visually thinking person. You can’t pass that up.”
The Times of London:- Quote:
Brandishing their wands, Harry - whose Quidditch playing appears to have contributed to a muscular adolescent physique - and his bearded headmaster stand in the centre of a ring of magical flame.
Afficiandos of over school-leaving age can preserve a facade of literary respectability by investing in the adult version, more soberly adorned with a photograph by Michael Wildsmith. It shows a battered copy of Advanced Potion Making, suggesting Harry is in line for more bruising lessons from hated potions master Snape.
Quote:
"There is no trace of that storyline (HBP) left in Chamber of Secrets. People have been speculating that book six is a spin-off of book two, but it is not."
CBBC Newsround:- Quote:
The adult cover shows a text book called Advanced Potion Making.
This hints that Harry does indeed get at least an Outstanding in his OWLS and goes on to study for a NEWT in Potions - a qualification he needs if he wishes to become an Auror.

I saw it this morning at 7:30 on the news! I was freaking out because they kept talking about Michael Jackson, and all I wanted was to see the cover.

What's with the UK version being so... cartoonish like the US versions? I liked our serious ones. And Harry looks really stupid in both of them.

US version looks like the Pillar of Storge!
UK Adult - I remember Jo saying somewhere there is a very important potion in the end of the book and she couldn't think of a name so she just put 'X' maybe that potion is in the book! (can't remember where I read this though)
UK Children - Hmm...looks like the fire could be coming out of Dumbledores wand.

yes finally, maybe he will become an Auror...
Did JKR in any of her interviews said something about Dumbledore not been the HBP. Maybe he is the one.

Random, but has everyone noticed how the COS cover and the HBP cover both have the same colours on them?

They do, that's odd because she said CoS and HBP are completely unrelated -- countrary to what some people like to think/believe.

Oh la lala ! This has not much detail but I am sure hat Dumbledore is very important since he is so big on our cover. You can always judge a book by the cover (lol) Any ways I am still very happy and excited but yes something BIG has to be happening to Dumbledore!

Well it appears that Harry is going to be recieving some individual instruction from Dumbledore! Yay! I was thinking that was going to happen.
The US Version looks like Harry Potter and the Green Flame Torch - Just kidding!!

The covers aren't always important.
PS had the train.
CoS had the Ford Anglia.
PoA had Buckbeak.
(All modes of transport! LOL)
GoF had the Horntail.
OotP had the Phoenix.
So, I wouldn't based any theories on the cover.
After all, DD being important/significant is no real shock -- after all he did defeat the first Dark Lord, Grindelwald.
The only cover that seems to give anything away is the adult and even that tidbit is tiny.

I like the US cover (is glad to be getting the US version) lol But at least the US cover answered one question in my head...Harry does eventually trust Dumbledore again. I mean I knew he would, but it's nice to see the two of them on the cover. And I like how the artist aged Harry. And honestly that's the best Dumbledore's ever looked!

My brother had a theory that Harry travels on all the things on the front covers. I don't know how the fire will fit into that though.

It's a good theory, mind you! Perhaps the fire is a mode of transportation, a spell?
I think we all knew Harry would trust DD again. He simply had to. The man is experienced, wise and useful; Harry would've been a fool not to.
