| | |  Harry Potter Lexicon to release next year
The Harry Potter Lexicon, an encyclopaedia by Steve Vander Ark, that was originally banned from publication, will now be released next year, following some revisions of the content. The 400 page book will be released on January 12th 2009. Quote:
Vander Ark and his publisher say the revised version meets specifications for such a book laid out in the judge's ruling.
Some details concerning the changes involved can be read about here. Quote:
"An Unauthorized Guide to Harry Potter Fiction and Related Materials" appears boldly below "The Lexicon" title and above author Steve Vander Ark's name. A full paragraph on the otherwise sparse cover further details the fact that neither Rowling nor a host of others with trademarks and other interests in the Harry Potter series had any part in the book.

"We think it's a better book in many ways because it has a lot more analysis," said Roger D. Rapaport of Muskegon, whose RDR Books is publishing The Lexicon. "He's done an amazing amount of new work."
RDR Books had originally intended to appeal the ban but withdrew on Thursday. J.K. Rowling's publicists have issued a statement in support of the book's publication. Quote:
"We are delighted that this matter is finally and favorably resolved and that J.K. Rowling's rights -- and indeed the rights of all authors of creative works -- have been protected," the statement said. "We are also pleased to hear that rather than continue to litigate, RDR have themselves decided to publish a different book prepared with reference to Judge Patterson's decision."
It seems all sides are finally happy; Quote:
Vander Ark said he never intended to offend Rowling, but rather wanted to give her books "deeper meaning."
"I don't want to do a book she's unhappy with," he said. "I'm a fan of hers."

I suppose it might be useful to purchase a copy of this book for quick reference purposes. I will have to think about that before I make a decision.

I seriously don't know what to say about that quote. Im sort of scared for Jo right now considering how strange his comments are after everything he did. Quote:

I'm not sure he's in a position to 'give her books ''deeper meaning'' '. I think that the fans have already done that by being members in communities like SS and such. And SVA did that aswell by being a fan and making his lexicon site. But its over when he started his plans to make money out of it all.
But I'm glad its been sorted out. Although there shouldnt have been anything to sort out in the first place if SVA knew what he was doing...
I wont be buying it, mostly because of all the frustration and struggle he put Jo through, and because you can get most of the lexicons content online anyways - wether its SVA's site or other sources.

I doubt he could fit the whole website into one book. Besides, in accordance with the law, this version is more transformative. To take it offline, to boost sales, would be pretty low.
