Thanks to Wizardnews Quote: Dundee went Harry Potter crazy once more today, with an estimated 6000 cinema goers desperate to check out the latest adaptation of JK Rowling’s novels.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban went on general release today, with the film immediately appearing to emulate the success of its two predecessors.
Queues were forming outside the Odeon at Douglasfield, Dundee an hour before the cinema opened this morning, with a few would-be wizards even dressing up in full Harry Potter garb for the occasion.
Marketing team leader, Graham Duff said the Odeon had taken around 2000 advance bookings for the film, with the movie going out on three screens today.
“It really is amazing but it’s a bank holiday as well so we were expecting it to be really busy,” he said.
“Unlike down south, the kids here are only off for one day, so this will help keep it busy over the next few days, into the weekend and then next week as well.
“There was a big queue when I turned up at nine this morning for our first screening an hour later, but we’ve taken some 2000 advance bookings in all for today plus everyone else who turns up.
“We’ve also seen a lot of adults in the queue as well, which fits with this film being a lot darker than the first two.”
Fang the Dog, star of the first two films in the series, was also on hand at Douglasfield to welcome fans desperate to get their first glimpse of the new movie.
Potter-mania also had the Dundee public firmly in its grip at the UGC Camperdown.
Business manager Richard Henderson said staff were gearing up for a brisk day and expected the latest flick to outperform the first two in the series.
“With the new Harry Potter film and The Day After Tomorrow, Troy and Van Helsing all still doing well, we are expecting today to be our busiest of the year,” he said.
“The 9 o’clock showing wasn’t sold out, but the 10 o’clock one was and we are hoping at least 3000 people will come to see Harry Potter today. We’ll be showing the film on three screens today such is the demand.”

i went and saw POA last night at a 8pm showing and got there at 6.30 and was queing till 7.45 it was packed.
there is loads cut out but it is still the best HP film it is stunning.

if u forget the BOOK u wil be fine it is an amazing film so beutifull Alfonso has done a great job. it is just really fast like it is rushed.

who hoo i seen it yesterday and it was bloody brilliant lol but the cinima had night vision goggles so no one could tape it lol i was just laughin at them

i went to see it at the Odeon in Leicester Square where they had the HP premiere at the 10.20 showing! when my mum & i went to the cinema there were quite a few people around already and it was only 9.20! an hour to go! i was so excited. then when we got our tickets, it was nearly sold out, more people were arriving, they opened the doors at about 9.50 and everyone went in, got popcorn/drinks and got sat down. when we came out, there were LOADS of people and all the tickets had SOLD OUT for the whole of the day!! i was like 'woah'.
We've booked tickets though to see it again on friday and i'm so happy we booked 'em like 2 weeks ago!!  | |

I booked my tickets 3 weeks in advance to see the first viewing in my hometown in Hampshire, I didn't have to queue - thankfully - but it sure was busy. It made a nice change having a large hotdog, popcorn and sprite for Breakfast! 
I might see it again tonight with my BF as he couldn't make it yesterday - POA two days in a row - LOVELY JUBBLY!  | |
