| | |  Harry Potter films to receive BAFTA Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts will be honouring the Harry Potter film series come Sunday, February 13 at the Orange British Academy Film Awards for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema. Author J.K. Rowling and producer David Heyman will be attending the BAFTA's especially to pick the prestigious accolades. David, and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson commented on the recognition.  Quote:
Producer David Heyman said: On behalf of the over 2000 people who worked in front of and behind the camera on each of the Harry Potter films I would like to say how honoured we all are to receive this Award. And thank you to Jo Rowling for entrusting us to bring her magnificent books to the screen.

Daniel Radcliffe who plays the eponymous hero remarked, “I am thrilled that the Harry Potter film series is being honoured with this Award. I have loved every minute of making these films and to me the real heroes are the crew and the huge team of craftsmen that have made all eight of them possible - this Award is a testament to their incredible work.”

Past recipients of the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema include Pinewood & Shepperton Studios, and actor Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart in Chamber of Secrets).
Additionally, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I was nominated for two 2011 BAFTA awards, including best special visual effects and hair and makeup. Harry Potter actresses Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) and Miranda Richardson are also up for the best supporting actress for their roles in The King's Speech and Made in Dagenham, respectively.

At the risk of sounding negative, I say it's the least they can do. Ten years and they have not awarded a BAFTA to HP. Tech noms are a no brainer too HP is stunning and obviously deserves recognition for special effects and art. But, why not notice HP for writing, directing and acting too! I expect the arrogance out of the American academy but I have long expected better from BAFTA.
