| | | Harry Potter creates a trend for film companies - companies want rights to other books Summary:
After the success of Harry Potter, it's no wonder other industry bosses are after rights to other popular novels. Article: Harry Potter creates a trend for film companies The Daily Mirror today reports, in a part of their newspaper called The Ticket that Harry Potter has now sparked off a trend for film companies around the globe. This news isn't up on the site as of yet, so I have typed it up from my copy of The Daily Mirror (2nd July 2004).
It can be found in the "Hollywood News" section of "The Ticket" pull-out in the newspaper. Quote: After the success of the Harry Potter films, companies are now fighting for the rights to all manner of books. Author GP Taylor, for example, has pocketed a £1million cheque for the rights to his novel "Wormwood" which follows a 18th Century maid as she tries to save the world from an approaching comet. A 19th Century maid trying to save the world from an approaching comet? That's funny right? Ok maybe it's just me but...

That's funny right? Ok maybe it's just me but...** I still haven't made up my mind if this is meant to be satirical or not. So it's not just me then who thinks that story seems odd? Lol I'm going to do a search on it, it's got me too curious now.
It seems they have a few of their facts wrong, trust the tabloids. I got this: Quote: G.P.Taylor’s second novel, Wormwood, is an historical thriller set in London in the eighteenth century. It is to be published by Faber and Faber in June 2004. from an Author Profiles website, it includes a picture of the guy... :/
I found a synopsis too Quote: Synopsis:
When a meteor strikes London, its inhabitants are devastated. It's not long before corrupt individuals start taking advantage of the disaster and, with the city lying in ruins, nothing seems certain to those who dwell there. In only they knew that, held captive and tucked away in an attic in the city, there is an angel. An angel who fell to earth with the meteor, whose only hope lies in the friendship of a servant girl named Agetta. For in this dark time of treachery and deceit, escape is not likely to come easily. at Amazon, for curiosity's sake, nothing else...

I'd really love to see "Remembering the Titanic" - Diane Hoh, transferred to the screen. It's such an emotive novel and it's so heart warming but so tragic too. And there's all sorts in there, the best parts being the sweet subtle romantic hints.

It will probably end up like the recent comic book to movie craze, a few good ones and many bad ones.

Well there isn't many people any more with original ideas for films cos it's all been done before so they're gonna start turning to books and comics (which they have already started) especially with the success of the adaptions so far like harry potter, lotr, spiderman and things like that!
I'm not sure about the book in the article though sounds kinda weird to me

It would probably destroy the whole film industry and the literary world because than people would want to right books to make directors use them as films. people will also try to copy good books.

Well, that book sounds....weird. Artemis Fowl, Eragon, and the Spiderwick Chronicals are some other books that are being made into movies within the next few years that I've found out. I think they are running out of original ideas...but I like seeing some books being made into movies as long as they don't mutilate the plot line and the characters... :/
