| | |  Harry Potter bookends recalled
A range of Harry Potter bookends are being recalled due to high levels of lead in the paint, which violate standards set for the product. 
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled 36,000 items in total, with the bookends featuring Harry Potter, Hedwig, Hermione and Crookshanks.
They should be returned to Giftco for a refund. | |

They are made in China and with all the toy recalls recently, this doesnt surprise me....As long as lead vapors are not emitted and lead paint chips are not eaten or even placed into the mouth (lead paint chips are sweet tasting, that is why kids may be tempted), they are not a danger sitting there on a desk holding up books.

That is true. I actually have owned these for over two years and I know they were made earlier than that, so their recall is a bit late. It is very difficult to provide when lead ingestion and subsequent poisoning occurred. My kids are too old to eat paint...
On a related note, I am an environmental scientist and many of our projects involve lead-based paint....from experience, an after the fact recall can still result in successful lawsuits. We have to provide expert witness in some cases related to lead based paint.
