Seven boys and one girl are translating the newest edition to the Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows into Hebrew for an Israeli website, and none of them are older than 15. The professional translator says the amateur translations are poor, but many fans in Israel don't speak English and are very eager to read the book. Quote:
Sixteen translated chapters were posted on the site by the weekend, and about two chapters are translated every week. Perel promises that the entire book will be done by the holidays - a lot earlier than the official translation by Gili Bar-Hillel, which is being published by Aliyat Hagag Books and Yedioth Books and is due out in time for Hanukkah.
For these teens, as for many other readers, the translator's name is well-known, and they are even interested in her lifestyle. This recognition is a marginal, but unusual, manifestation of the Harry Potter phenomenon in Israel. "Why does she need half a year to translate the book, I don't understand," said Perel angrily. "We're going to finish far ahead of her, and this is her job. She gets paid for it. If we translate a chapter in one day, she can do it, too."

ok...yes...i do live in israel..i KNEW this would show up here somtime!!LOL!!!! ok, i cant stop laughing now...no, i am NOT that girl...and Gili sucks at translating potter!!! the english one is the best!!! so, yea!!! LOL!!! when i saw the title (internet pirates) i was thinking "who r these evil harry potter fans!" and then i see the word "hebrew" and i just went crazy!!LOL!!! ok...sorry..gotta go do somthing imortant..*runs to tell nuts*

well it is sort of unfai on the fans....the russian one dosent comeout till january 2008, that dosent bother me but some of my old friends are quite un happy that i was able to read the english and they couldnt....but the kids suld do it...it gives them something to do for the people, and when the proffessional comes out all the fans will read that too....
