| | |  Half-Blood Prince will open in IMAX next summer
On the heels of yesterday's announcement about the delayed release of Half-Blood Prince (which will now come out on July 17th 2009) the IMAX corporation have announced that they intend to release it in their cinemas in the summer accordingly. Quote:
On the bright side, Richard Gelfond, co-chief executive of Imax, noted that when "Harry Potter" does open next summer, it will appear in close to 100 of its new digital theaters, as opposed to about 40 estimated to be in operation by November. "It's a better revenue opportunity for us at that point," he said.
IMAX still plans to release part of the "Harry Potter" film in 3-D.
The company have also said they are currently exploring the options for an alternative. | |

I would actually prefer it to be a summer blockbuster.....I mean, if it even makes blockbuster status. 
IMAX sounds fun though! Too bad I never got to see TDK in IMAX.....

If I thought it would actually make a difference I would spam the Warner Brothers website, feedback section, with angry complaints about this screw up. As it is, I doubt they care what the fans think. They don't seem to right now.

I do feel bummed that the release date has been moved back 8 months. And I'm further bummed that the decision does seem to have been money motivated.
I know that I'll be playing the audio book version of HBP at least twice during the next year until the release in July 2009.
The only benefit to the paying customers (us) is that there will be more IMAX theaters showing HBP than were available to show prior films. I've seen every HP film that was released in IMAX in an IMAX theater and the experience was fantastic. It is worth the extra $ to see and hear the movie on the really big screen with the surround speakers. (I wonder if part of the HBP will be in 3D as OOP was?)
Bummed, but I'll survive ...

...Because it's seriously going to fail at the box office. This is Harry Potter yall. Haha unfortunately Warner Brothers have made their decision about pushing back the release date and while it's not cool they did it, we're gonna have to live with the fact that we have to wait until next year to see it. Don't boycott it, though. You're gonna end up seeing it anyway. It's just gonna be at a different time of year. A time of year that is known for making money at the movies. I'm glad they're putting it in IMAX. It better be so epic in IMAX like TDK was.
