Half-Blood Prince has topped the children's list of the most borrowed books in Scottish libraries. Quote:
McCall Smith, 59, said that he was delighted with the figures, compiled by Public Lending Right, the body which pays fees to authors for library use of books.
Overall J.K.Rowling ranked as the 107th most borrowed author. Quote:
With only seven novels to her credit, JK Rowling posts at number 107, despite Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince's showing as the most-borrowed children's book.
Rowling's comparatively lowly position is perhaps emblematic of the differences between the flighty bestseller charts and the solidity of the library lending list, which prioritises authors with a weighty backlist.
