| | | 'Goblet' Review: Best Potter Film Ever! Ain't It Cool News has posted online a review of ' Goblet of Fire'. The reviewers say the movie is 'the best Harry Potter film so far.' The whole thing can be read here. Quote:
If a young child sees Voldemort as he is done in this picture, be prepared for nightmares to follow. I won't spoil how he looks, but it is horrific. And I for one couldn't be happier! You really get the sense that this is the meanest, nastiest, ugliest and most dangerous man/wizard/creation on the face of the Harry Potter earth. Bravo!
It really isn't a film for small kids and they really shouldn't be allowed to see it. They can watch "Jurassic Park" in stead. That at least has a happy ending. This certainly does not - and I won't spoil it if you don't know what happens in the graveyard and what the aftermath is. But it is certainly too much for children to cope with.
Quote:
The acting is (for the most part) also getting better. Daniel Radcliffe is still no Haley Joel Osment, but he is believable. His crying scene in this one was at least better than the one in part 3 (and more needed in this film at the point when it comes, all though it does come a little out of the blue).
Rupert Grint is still a heck of a lot of fun as Ron, although he doesn't really get to do more here than in the last film, where he had to sit out on the whole time travelling.
Again they have souped up Emma Watson's role as Hermione. She seems more and more like a leading character than Ron's supporting, and in the book they are equally big.
But they/we need a heroine, and Hermione is what we get (and mixed signals come with that - one could easily think, from how she worries, hugs and cares for Harry, that she has some romantic feelings for him, which is a false lead).
And here is the suprising let-down: After her commanding the screen in part 3, it is a real shock that she is the only one of all the students on screen this time that really seems to be "acting". It all seems very forced, over-studied and over-felt, and that's a shame, since she really was the well-deserved star of the last film. Hopefully she gets better next time - she just isn't good enough in part 4.
Quote:
I really want to call it "the family film of the year", but, as stated before, this is really not a family film. Don't bring the small ones - the images and horrors are that strong! Bring your parents in stead - whatever their age. Cause this is an adult picture. And if it wasn't deamed unworthy just for being "a Harry Potter film", it could easily have become a dark horse for a Best Picture nomination for some of the many awards shows coming soon. That's the curse of being a fourth film in a "children's series".

Well, what a surprise. Quote:
And what happens after that in the graveyard has also been shortened greatly, but it's done so faithful to the book and with all the needed lines and plot points that no one can complain.
So we can't complain about that. That's great then! Quote:
Fleur and Viktor together have less than 10 lines in the film in total (and that is not an overstatement). There is not a mention of the word Veela in the film.
What??? Quote:
Cedric is the only other student in the movie with more than five lines. Which is sad since Fleur, Viktor, Cho, Draco and a couple of the other kids are well-defined characters in the book.
Why don't they have more lines? Quote:
You really get the sense that this is the meanest, nastiest, ugliest and most dangerous man/wizard/creation on the face of the Harry Potter earth.
Great! Quote:
Would I have liked a four hour film that covered more of the novel? Yes! But for an almost three hour long movie they couldn't have adapted the material better.
I would also have like a 4 hour movie Quote:
Yes, it could have been better had it been longer. But as long as it is what it is, it is a **** good movie! And probably the best Harry Potter film we're gonna get until part 7
The best we get until part 7? Wow, he must be psychic |

Ain't It Cool review shouldn't be taken all serious, the guys working there are not expert film critics, they don't have a degrees about filmmaking, so people shouldn't take this review that serious because of the source, a bunch of dudes that watch movies!

This is *exactly* why it should be taken serious. Critics and people with 'film degrees' are the harshist of critics. In fact, they would probably be WORSE on the actors and the scenes. I like two sets of fan reviews: Fans who have NOT read the books but love the movies and fans who *have* read the books and may or may not love the movies. It's quite interesting because it seems to follow what everyone else has been saying. Hermione not being canon, Ron being a riot, how the film is cut down, Dan's gotten better but not the best actor, and stuff like that...
That said, I'm really glad to hear that the graveyard scene, though trimmed down, is still great. I am disappointed to hear that some of the more important characters aren't heard/seen more.
The one thing I'm iffy on is the Harry/Hermione vs. Ron/Hermione thing. It's obvious that from this review there are strong hints for R/Hr even from Hermione's pov, but that one could think it was going to be H/Hr from some of the way Hermione acts... but this is good because it's a lot like that in the book. But it's bad because seeing it on screen might come off worse than in the book... I'll just be happy if we see jealousy from Hermione with Fleur.

Actually, AICN is quite good about different things in reviews and such. They're a legit source. They're rarely wrong about spoilers that they have and they're given their access to different things. They may not have degrees or anything like that, but neither does most film sites.
I think the review is pretty good. One of the best ones I've read. I know you hate it because they're a bit harsh on Dan, but I think they prove to be unbiased by admitting that he has gotten better. Most critics aren't even fond of Dan's acting, so this reviewer is not alone in their thinking.

That is why it shouldn’t be taken serious, this is from a fan, I have read better reviews than this one, this one sucks big time, fans know nothing about acting compare to the real critics, so to me this is another dude or girl who is just giving her/his opinion, and it seems that she/he is not a fan of Emma in any way.
And what are you talking about Dan not the best actor, none of the trio are the best actors out there, not even Rupert (who I know you love to death)
Dan has more awards than any other kids from the HP movies and he is good, he is well recognize by real critics and also by fans!! |

I don't hate it, they haven't said anything bad about Dan...like I said before, this is from a fan who it looks to me dislike Emma or Hermione or whatever, so far all the reviews that I have read ALL of them are saying that Ron and Hermione have an equal time in this movie, so I don't see his/her comments about Hermione...
And like I said before real critics have praise Dan's acting, and not only critics but also actors, GOOD actors!!! so what should I worry about a no-body!! |

Nono, I wasn't debating (although, isn't that what a msg board is for?) or fighting, or worked up, I was just saying... But if I wanted to fight I'd say something about Dan's 'awards'. Hah!
Any ways, in keeping with the theme... I do like the sounds of Voldemort very much. But I have to laugh about the Jarassic Park thing because at the time it came out (I think I was like 12 or 13 then!), parents were all upset because Speilberg did something 'scary'. haha.

Well i don't care what anyone else says about this-i like this because it's from a fan's point of view. The overly-critical type of fan's point of view. Which is the kind i have. The writer made some interesting points that i had sort of forgotten about...Hermione has sort of taken all the glory. I mean Emma's the best actress out of the trio *coughcoughdanshouldfindanothercareercough*, but she has been talking very seriously about acting a lot lately. Like she's taken quite a few courses since the last movie. Maybe she's starting to get a little caught up in the technical aspects.
But so far i like what i'm hearing about Voldemort...I'm so glad to hear good reviews about him, because i was sort of doubting he would come out right. As for leaving out Fleur, Cho, and Krum...
