| | | 'Goblet of Fire' will have an M rating in Australia
Following an appeal by Roadshow Film Distributors, it has been decided that ' Goblet of Fire' will definitely have an M rating in Australia.
Although the rating suggests the film isn't for under 15's, there is no actual restriction on who can see the film and there aren't any rules about parents accompanying children. Quote:
The six members of the Classification Review Board voted unanimously to retain the M rating. The board's convenor, Maureen Shelley, said M was warranted because "the cumulative sense of threat and menace is moderate rather than mild" in a movie "that represents a move to darker themes".
She said "the scenes of Harry experiencing pain and anxiety are more likely to disturb younger children" than those in the other Potter movies.
The director of the Office of Film and Literature Classification, Des Clark, said yesterday that the rating was in line with other countries and softer than the "restrictive" rating in Britain.
"It's at the discretion of parents to look at the consumer advice and look at the maturity of their children to see whether they're able to see it." He said the themes, elements of the story and the violence could trouble young children.
"Go and see the film first yourself if you're worried about young children's responses."

15? that's a lot. here, they put a 13+ restriction and children can't enter-not even with their parents. i found that extremely ridiculous.

15? God! Well, if I lived there I would go either way *shrugs* I don't really mind with the rating.

I respect their decision. The books only get darker. You might as well start preparing the kiddos.

Well the age means squat. Under 15's can still go. It's just so the paents are aware, I guess.

i live in australia and i know al about the ratings and i think the M rating is fine for GoF, considering the themes. And you all seem to think u have to be 15 and over to see it, they are just recomending it for people over 15.

i think the restrictions are fine and stuff because you never know how the children will react to scenes when Harry's in pain and what not. the parents should watch the movie first and then decide if its suitable for their kids.

15 seems a bit high, but I suppose if there is no actual restriction, it's okay. It's just suggesting that those under 15 may not be mature enough to handle it.

I've always thought the Aussie ratings were too tough, but it wouldn't matter to me if it were R rated!
