| | | 'Goblet of Fire' gets a 12A rating in the UK CBBC Newsround is reporting that ' Goblet of Fire' has been given a 12A rating in the UK. This means that anyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The British Board of Film Classification decided that the higher rating was needed as the fourth film is more frightening than the first three.
A spokesperson said, Quote:
"Examiners decided that the 12A was the most suitable category, as younger or more sensitive viewers could be frightened by some of the more intense scenes (which I can't reveal as you'd get upset with me!)."
"The ending was a shock too, although maybe if you have read the books, you'll be expecting it anyway. At 12A, we allow moderate level violence, but without focus on injuries or blood."
There's also an interiew with one of the examiners who explains how the film got its rating.
Additionally the BBFC lists the running time as 156m 54s. |

Well in theory any age person can see the film. Like with the PG-13 rating, not many under 12's go to the cinema alone anyways. So it's just a caution to parents to warn them that it's a bit darker.

No that's longer than PoA slightly shorter than CoS. Quote:

It works the same as PG-13 only it's 12 instead.

That word has always bothered me , because from the start Harry Potter has always been dark. It was just the perspective Rowling threw on it that made them seem ... light hearted, at least for me. When I saw CoS I could tell immediately that the stories had some underrlying darkness.
Now that I think about it, that was what got me reading them. So often we see a hero, who has everything going for him, but in actuality that's not the case. I used to think heroism was all fame and glory, but each hero has to go through some darkness, I think. It makes him human.
I suppose, however, I'll have to get used to the darkness that most people equate with the later Harry Potter books. It'll just take some time.

^ I agree but GoF is undoubtedly darker. There were deaths at the beginning of PS but we never really 'see' those whereas with GoF we get to know a character through the story and then he dies at the end. We actually get to see people like Frank and Cedric die on screen which is very different to just hearing about deaths. Then there's the tasks and the unexpected task. I agree it's always been a pretty dark series but it does get progressively 'worse'.

I was just speaking with my nephew about this. He's 12 now and he found PoA scary (he was hiding behind the cushions during Lupin's transformation), but he still really wants to see GoF, I hope he can handle it.
As the the movies progress, the certificate may raise judging on the content in the books. The duel in the bathroom between Harry and Draco in HBP for instance. It's just a guess...

I don't think HP will ever go beyond a 12 certificate.

Maybe I'm visualising certain parts in the books, worse than they were intended. My imagination goes wild at times!

No I think the Sectumsempra thing will be pretty bad. I mean it causes gash wounds all over the body; there's no way that could be sugar-coated. But still I don't think any of them will ever call for anything higher than a 12.
