Werewolves and dementors are one thing, but how about teen hormones for something really scary?

The new Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) appears in a scene from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Warner Bros.

The trailer for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban hits theaters next Friday, and USA TODAY has the first look at the third film in the blockbuster series based on J.K. Rowlings' bestsellers.

This movie, which arrives in theaters June 4, 2004, is spookier, darker and more emotional, with a more adolescent and angry Harry Potter, now 13, a new Professor Dumbledore and a more contemporary look for Harry and his pals, Ron and Hermione. All of this from a new director, Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mamá También, A Little Princess).

Warner Bros.
Pam Ferris plays floating Aunt Marge in Azkaban.

"Alfonso really understands the nuances of being a teenager, and that's vital to this film," producer David Heyman says. "It's much more grounded in reality. This is a magical world, but not a fantasy world. This film has the magic of A Little Princess, but the reality of Y Tu Mamá. But I can assure you that Harry, Ron and Hermione are not going off on a road trip. No ménages à trois."

The trailer offers the first glimpse of the evil hooded Dementors, who suck the happiness out of those unlucky enough to cross their paths; the dangerous, scraggly-haired escaped prisoner Sirius Black (Gary Oldman); and the mysterious werewolf who spends his days as Professor Lupin (David Thewlis).

Harry is growing more accustomed to the world at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

"He's becoming slightly more used to seeing this magical stuff all around him, like a giant squid in a lake and ghosts everywhere," says Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry. But audiences may not be quite so blasé with all the magical goings-on.

Thanks for that idea...don't know if I'll make it to the Looney Toons movie.

It's very difficult waiting for new HP movies, books, etc. This teaser trailer almost makes it harder!

I'm currently rereading POA to my son, so it's even more exciting!
Do the show the same trailers with the same movies in all countries or is it just in the U.S?.
I mean, is the PoA trailer shown with looney toons everywhere?.
